Default zvh compression question

Hello you lot,

just want to know roughiy how many time do you have to skim a head before it starts messing up your compression in a big way?

i've got a 2.1 zvh turbo cabby and it was pinking all over the place. its set up really good apart from the distributor is on full retard to stop it pinking.

its running 8psi at the mo., i tested out the compression and found that it was 170-175 per chamber, and heard that it should be roughly 140-145 per chamber for a turbo car. had the pistons skimmed right, so all i can think of is that this head had been skimmed too much, maybe head gasket problem or something

i know that its had a new cam.,, whats your thoughts.
I have a 1.8zvh with a compression of 10bar in each cylinder roughly 147.50 psi in each cylinder , does this mean its alright for a turbo ????

yes n/a car are nearer 190-200 psi 147 is low compression my 2.1zvh running 20psi 7:8:1 compression ratio was 150psi compression

so long as the pistons have not been machined back to achieve this psi figure then yes what will be ok and you will be safe to run up to about 18psi however dont be tempted to go over 20psi as this is about the melting point of the pistons but on a std head, cam etc with 14psi of boost it should give back around 180 bhp like mine did

oh yeah and make sure that you use a vernier pulley to set the cam timing as the blocks are around 4mm or so taller than the cvh so the cam will not align very well with the bottom end if using the std pulleys
