I got my car back from the bodyshop today (pictures up in a few days)

i went to put it in reverse but it wont let me, tried with clutch up and down.

all the other gears work, what could be cousing this?

bit of a nigtmare not being able to reverse!

 

did they have the gearbox out?

If so the gear box selector may be in the wrong place, could just need a slight turn to allow the shaft into reverse.

just turn around in the car,and pretend your reversing!

 

Don't worry bout reverse: it's an RST so the floor is prob rotten: just put your feet through the bottom (Flintstones stylie) then pedal away

Or get the selector set-up correctly instead if you really do want it to work

 

try holding the clutch down, put it in fourth. Then quickly put the selector into reverse.

if it goes in the clutch isnt disengaging properly - stretched clutch cable for example.

 

no they didnt have the gearbox outas it was in the bodyshop being sprayed!

all other gears are fine and ive tried 4th and then almmin it into reverse.

do i need a new gearbox or is this fixable?

its just like reverse isnt available ( you cant put it into reverse at all, its blocked off)

 

Was there a problem before it went into the garage ?

they didnt touch the gear box at the garage, but no the problem wasnt there then!

ive put it into firth driving along today and its making an awful grinding banging noise! gears 1,2,3,4 are al fine tho, what the hell wrong with it!

 

hey,do they have a forklift truck at the garage?or have they jacked up the car on the linkages,check under for scrapped off oil or scratches on the link bars, i had a rover metro gta (sad to admit ) and it went in to a reputable garage,and they lifted it totally crushing my sills both sides,and then claimed it wasnt them!

cant see how your cars fine one day and fooked the next,av they swapped your box??????????

will it go into reverse without the engine running? if yes, its prob the clutch not disengaging as said above, theres no syncro for reverse, so if the gear wont stop spinning, it cant be engaged.

 

Mine did a rude noise in 5th before breaking. Jammed the box solid

 

the noise from the box seems to be getting worse, ive tried everything to get the lever into reverse, no luck, running or not running.

what box can i get as a replacement? will a standard 1600 cvh do?

 

Hello mate
Do your self a favour buy your Haynes manual and set up the selector shaft
properly by losening the pinch bolt and following the instructions/these are different for each different type (S1 and S2) and different model years as well.
I've not been in any RS T that selects/changes gears like mine and indeed haven't found
any Clutch/gear box centre/'specialists' (Ho Ho) that knows how to do this correctly they all seem to do it so it's 'sort of' correct. And indeed most rolling road operators don't know how to select reverse properly as they never have one that works as the good Ford intended any more.
I hope this helps and know that if you do the above (even if, as one the the above experts suggests the linkage has been damaged)it will be better than you've ever hadit.

when my box went the first time i had only 3rd and 5th and no reverse

second time it just jammed

well if my box is fucked and not worth replacing ive got a gargare that said they will fit me a new 1 for 200 quid, what box can i use tho?

will a standard 1.6 cvh boxdo? as an lsd box is so expensive.

 

dont think so,might get eaten up pretty quick.

 

Don't bodge it you will regret it and ignore the bollocks about the diesel box being tougher, it isn't. Call Bernie at CTS and he will sort you out. His boxes aren't too painfull and are very good. (only box I haven't broken )
