Default is it time to give up with my cossie ?

car needs a new diff , engine rebuild and new turbo !! and a few cosmetic bits and bobs is it time to chuck in the towel and look for something else or stick with it ?? the shell is pritty sound nothing major.
so do i stick with it and have all the work done or give up with this one and possably buy another which may give me all the same problems as i have now and just end up even more out of pocket ??
whats your opinons

thats my way of thinking cos at least i'll have a engine to the spec i want which i know that should not go wrong , just when you look at the price and what that could buy it starts you thinking ,but i guess theres still could be the same problems with that in time to come

if you buy another car it could still have things wrong with it if this happens you have got rid of a car that needs work for another car that needs work as i found when i bought mine because without a strip down you cant tell what the motor has had done you have to take there word for it . i only had mine a week before the engine went pop now its all done its exactly what i want

Count up how much it will cost and if it's worth it compared to getting a more reliable/decent car. That's they way I did it. Love RS's, but would only have one as a second car

the way i looked at it as i was in a similer position as you a few weeks ago

car cost me 4500k, took engine apart for a self made rebuld was budgeting for 1500 quid, means that i can get 4500k back after a 1500 quid loss

took engine apart and found it was scrap, 3 bent rods, ovwer skimmed head and a fooked block

got a price for the new eparts in the budget and machining,,,,,,,,,, 4k, now 4k on a car that will bring me 4500k back

so i bought a second hand lump and im still bugeting for 1500 quid to fit it, plus ive got a few spare parts now too so i can flog them

now if ya look from that point of veiw then when the enigne on a cossie has gopne then its usually not worth rebuilding financially, sell the parts ya got and start again its tbh the best option

you will prob get 1 to 2k for the parts, with out knowing what ya got cant be sure though

but if ya done that then ya could save the 3k ya gonna spend MIN and buy another car

good luck in what ya decide, the problem with saphs is most owners heart rules there head and they loose lads of cash on em

but once i've had the engine done and the diff theres not much more that will wank replacing with the work i've already had done and the way i'm thinking about it now is that if i should ever have any problems with the shell i will always have that engine and bits to use in a re-shell

i know what you mean totally but i've never been one for a practial car what ever i have it would be peformance car and if i did move away from the rs that car i would always be wanting to tune it , the cosworth was all ways one of the cars i wanted to own and personly i like the saph more than the 3 door . the saph is not our every day car as my missus has a reliable car for that

hey i was just stating that 4k on a cr that cost ya 4k to buy is silly, if ya had a smash would ya repair it if it cost 2k to repair or break and buy another one

with a escos i Do understand but a saph aint worth it imo,. spend 2k maybe but spend more and ya mental

just my feelings btw as most cossie owners seem to make the wrong desisions (like me )

fair play in ya desision, in 6 months remember this thread and then put a reply up saying "maybe" ginge was right

lol @ ginge lets hope we don't see that post the car in its self cost me nothing as it was a swap for a erst that needed work as so did the cossie which i did my self on a budget so its not as though i'm loosing anything on it yet the thing was i would not move away from a cossie at this point in my life the question was do i give up on mine and with the money i would save on this one buy another which on face value is the better car but as dave has said whats to say i'm not going to get my self the same problems in 6 months from that one then ginge as you say whats the point in spending all that money on it

hey im the worst at poer claims, i was just out side when i went to the shop to find 3 people standing at my car looking in the window, i was explainig that the car does 170mph due to it being speed limited for saftey reasons but its got a ex calos saints enigine in it and its roughly 550bhp, not the most powerfull one but its rapid and well know over the world

then he asked to open the bonnet but i never had my keys on me, he looked through the vents and hes replay was " wheres ya engine mate, theres nothing in there"

i was bored and they actually fell for it at first, i did manage to save it and say : cause its RWD the engines mounted inn the back for perfect handling and traction, they then looked on the back seat and noticed the rs500 cooler and rad on the back seat and belived me again saying its a credit to all the hard work ive done and hes amazed at what people do with cars these days

exactly same position i was in. i gave it up as after all the time/money i would still be left with an rst! as yours is a cossie and you still prefer the saph to any other car in that price range then i think you should spend the cash and make it right!

better the devil you know mate, you might buy some one else's problems & go through it all again, spend 4k on a 4k car not worth it, you will get that back in part's all day long, m3 is a great car & reliable except for suspension bushes & vanos Ł2000 & expensive servicing, but you won't get the same buzz with a m3 that you get with your cossi, re-build it mate you know you want to

i know where you are coming from i had about 20k in my saff smashed it up , said i would nver get another cossie ,they are just a money pit but i still love them to pieces .
so guess what i'm saving like mad for another , you just can't beat them for , laugh's and they still draw the crowd.
my other half aint so keen and i found out i'm going to be a DAD .
so i need a 4 door car for practicality ( thats what i'll tell her ).
just fix the car you can't the the buzz of a car running a turbo
