Default stuck on 3000rpm??? would'nt go down!!! help!

just had it mapped and setup a few weeks prior. was in the lakes!! bless the place. i liked it but cossie obviously didnt. went through some puddles (not very deep) and then the fun began. pulled over to let the missus out to pop into a shop. im sat there and it cuts out. start her up and its straight upto 3000rpm in neutral! was ticking over at 3000 rpm and only went down when i braked in gear. any gear i was in it wanted to accelarate upto 3000 rom without me touching the accelerator. pulled over. popped bonnet. checked throttle cable ( it was'nt stuck and spring was returning fine) all hoses were connected fine. was limping home praying i didnt burn out the brakes!! then suddenly after about half an hours driving fixed itself!! right back to normal. no problem ticking over fine at 800rpm. any ideas what this may have been. copule of folk say some water could have gotten into the electrics somewhere. what do you guys think?? all runs fine now but can't afford this to happen again, seemed dangerous/expensive. even reduced the missus to tears! not good!!
thanks for any help!
