Default Fuel Line Ruptured - Best Fix?

Fired up my 4i the other day for the first time in 12 months and it wee'd fuel everywhere. (Tony Mannock warned me about this 18 months ago when I had the car inspected)

The problem is on my 4i you have

little metal pipe < rubber section with jubilee clips > little metal pipe

It's the rubber section that's gone.

I guess I could just buy some replacement pipe, two new clips and replace it. But I aren't sure if that's the best fix? I do have an RS500 fuel line piece on my XR4x4 I could swap it over but I aren't too sure how you get that off.

Am I OK replicating what's there or is it a bodge not worth re-bodging?

you could as you say just fit new rubber pipe if its been on there 20 years and has been fine till now....

OR you could get some of those plastic compresion joint things clean up the 2 metal lines, put then on the old metal hose then add another bit of plastic or metal hose in between

why dont you wanna replace it with another bit of fuelhose? is it suposed to be like that, or is it from a previous bodge?

I don't know the answer to that Jim. On my XR4x4 the fuel filter is in a totally different place but had a similar rubber hose bodge. On my 4i the fuel filter is sitting horizontally on the inside of the front near side arch. On my 4x4 it's vertical and on the front valance. From pics I have seen on other cars they are all over the place so I don't know where it should be as standard.

Also since I have a turbo conversion planned I don't want to do anything that's going to compromise safety so moving the filter might be an option. Cost isn't an issue either so I would rather do it once and do it right so to speak.

I think I'm going to inspect the aeroquip bits I have on the 4x4 and see what looks in good enough condition to swap across. I don't like the location of the fuel filter in relation to were the turbo will be.

Cheers Jim, like I say I'm not sure if mine is in the standard 4i position or not. The position on my 4x4 seems a sensible one to copy.
