Default S1 & S2 Know-it-all's!

Following on from this....

https://passionford.com/forum/viewto...029827#2029827

The car is finally turning over but won't fire. There is no Negative from the coil and no spark.

On connecting a temp link between -neg on the coil and the -neg on the batt, still no spark.

And on the No2 ignition turn, the Amal valve makes a loud clicking noise while the pump is priming

I have connected up the earth strap from the rear lifting eye to inner wing, should there be one from the gearbox to chassis?

Also.............

No.1 Is for what exactly?
No.2 Main +Posi Battery Cable
No.3 Crank trigger wire?

Dunno why but No's 1 and 3 are round the other way on my starter motor Anyone confirm their all correct?

So any thoughts on the no spark situation?

Cheers in advance guys Oh and a thanks to Damo for the text helpline

sounds like an immobiliser problem

that other connector with them wires could be amal valve wiring?

but wont know till i c a pick

This is the fan overide picture.

WHAT we need to know is, should there be a perm earth at the coil with IGN on??? as there isnt one....

Also Anyone got an engine bay pic so I can see what wires go where on the battery?? Just to confirm a couuple of things

i should imagine there should be a perm earth at the coil as it wouldnt spark but not to sure

battery wise there should be two black cables that look like neg but are positive fuseable wire it is

then just the main power

the battery wires are right it was the brown wires I wasnt sure about but they are on the earth side, so thats fine, the fusable links yeah they on fine, Im fairly certain the coil should have perm NEG, with IGN on, I personally think the ecu isnt getting IGN live, so we need pin numbers for ecu ie which are IGN live etc...

Paul change thread title mate, "No spark ecu pinouts neededet etc"

Hi ...

If I remember right ... The Brown + Brown/Black is an Air Temp Sensor connection, which goes to the Ignition Module.

No.1 Are the 2 wires (both brown) Damo thinks should be attached to the Positive, but were both not sure

Are the only wires on the Negative the 1 thick one??

Can someone with a S1 confirm that these wires are correct as you can see another plug has been fixed on, but were not 100% sure the connections are correct

Just need to know what colour wire goes to + and 0 and -

We also need a break down of the pins in the ECU and the fuel ECU, as we need to trace back power etc.....

Paul, your battery wires are right, dont worry about that, I am fairly sure your dizzy phase wires are right but as paul says, if anyone knows, which colour wires are + 0 - that would be a great help just to confirm,

Paul as per grimme... PIN 13 should be live with IGN on, let me know how you get on paul I'll be on my Mob

Thats a side light plug.

Paul, i have a ford workshop manual for the RS, which has wiring diagrams for the ecu's.

I'm also pretty good with wiring if you need me to pop over the weekend.

Matt.

Matt, I said that 3 daqys ago... get with the program

It isnt it IS somewhere to plug a Fan overide switch FACT

Besides we managed to get it running,

problems cured included

dodgy dizzy, not sending out a phase signal
the plug which goes onto the dizzy, had the wires the wrong way round,
the plug which goes to the dizzy was the wrong plug LOL
we managed to get it running for about 2mins, then it died, felt like it ran out of petrol, buggered about with it constantly for hours, I am fairly sure its now down to a dodgy metering unit..... which is going to be changed today....

Big thanks to Pauls mate Liam who came along in his S1 and let us rob a few bits off it

Nope both wrong

mk3's never had a fan over ride wire, i found out today that it is actually..................

The fan thermostate switch wire. Duh, i should of known

Matt thanks for the loan of yourself but, i think you may not be needed. Although as of tonight it still aint running properly.

We managed to get it going for about 5-7 minutes today, running nicer than yesterday.

But it just wouldn't idle properly, almost sounds as if its missing or the timing is well out. The time it did start today the timing on the dizzy was fully advanced.

The crank pully and cam pully are both correct with the timing and when all is TDC the rotor arm is in the correct place.

Its really weird

Also the battery is on its last legs with holding charge, so its on charge overnight again tonight. But a new one would prob help quite a bit.

On initial cranking there is a nice big bright spark, but 1 to 2 seconds later its a weak spark - could be the problem, but its a real puzzle.

Any thoughts?

cranking takes a lot of battery power...if its on its lasts legs that may be why the spark goes weak

deffo try the battery as stated, will help

failing that, are you sure the fueling system is ok and working correctly?.

Havent got any air leaks anywhere in the breathers, do u run a dumpvalve, if so try taking it off

All the wiring ok now?

grimmeRST,

Going to try and turn the cabbie around to get some jump leads on there for the time being. The batt thats on there is ok, but we are killing it on the amount of times weve tried starting it now.

No air leaks.... that i know off. Got all Roose hoses on there now.

Dump valve Err no PMSL.

And as far as i know, wiring is ok. Alex-ZVH thinks he is upto the challenge, so we'll see.
