Default whats the temporary workaround for VSR?

ok let the abuse commence

what i mean is i heard people saying before how people will do summink with the tappets to try n cover up VSR when selling a car etc. which makes it all seem ok for a few months before it eventually rears its ugly head again (but worse)

wince this current engine's only gotta last a few weeks (a month at the most) before it gets thrown in the skip i figure i may aswell try this.

IIRC you simply adjust the tappets to a very low clearance... this right?

i cant get my head around how/why this would work (infact the way i see it it would make it worse as the valve wouldnt seat properly to the head surely ) but people must do it for a reason.

and before you ask no i dont intend to do it and then flog the car to some poor unsuspecting buyer, i just figure it might be less annoying that my current workaround (ie setting the idle RPM to 1500-2000!)

and please, no abusive posts with smileys unless you 1) understand what valve seat recession actually is 2) know how tappet adjustment affects valve openings. as you'll simply be drawing to conclusions otherwise

Its not as complex as you might think TBH Jim.

VSR simply closes the gap up on a head like yours so should make little noticeable difference to the way in which you set the tappet clearance's.

VSR is generally due to lack of lead in the fuel. What it does cause is badly seating valves and excessive HC's with a consequencial increase in teh amount of required fuel to give complete combustion.

Set the followers properly (With pressure applied to the upward thrusting side) and cross your fingers for relative quietness.

Have a great evening
