Default Car's at the garage :)

lets just hope that this one doesnt come back char-grilled

i'm shitting a brick about it aswell... you can see just how much i trust garages

so expect one of two posts later...

1) a BIG UP to the garage that sorted my car and made it work proper

2) a big fookin moan at another spanner monkey who ripped me off and fucked me car

lets all hope it'll be number 1 :fingerscrossed:

valve related...

HCs are thru the roof... and no vacuum apartently it affects cyl5 the most

cam's the most likely suspect, but VSR could also be an issue... wont know till the heads come off

also if the heads have got to come off, then i'm gonna replace em with some nice big valve, low-comp jobbies i've been offered in preperation for the turbo conversion (they also have hardened valve seats)

whilst i'm there might aswell put a shiny new modified cam in there...

both are jobs i intended to do at some point in the not so distant future, but i hoped they could wait till i had a better cash-flow situation

Jim are you really sure that this is a genuine 60k car? i certainly wouldnt have expected the engine to be Fubar like it is if it was!!!

Good luck sorting it out.

thats not good jim, you don't have much luck mate... TBH while your having all that done i'd be tempted to have a bottom end rebuild.

anyhoo tell us more about these low comp heads?

I didnt think you could take much out of the 2.8 heads, which was why TT machined the pistons?

theyre what jason ennes managed to aquire...

we both doubt the "low comp" part, but theyre definately big valve.

just been n collected the car n had a more thorough chat about the problem. its likely that the cam is still intact and that it is indeed the dreaded VSR that'll serve me right for not putting in anywhere near as much lead additive as i should have been

wont know for 100% until the heads come off tho... and may aswell stick a new cam in there anyway whilst thats being done... lol

doh, a nice shiny new bottom end would indeed be the best idea, but my bank balance says otherwise

stsve, yes it is the problem i was having on sunday mate

jlr: imho i'd avoid RSR like the plague...

i've never had any issues with kwikfit in bromley north but then i'm friendly with the guys in there so they always do things proper for me

bert once again the car has done 64k (well it did when i bought it, its just swung round to 70k now). but anyway, why has mileage got anything to do with general engine health? you can get an engine thats done 200k thats still in better nick than one thats only got 2k on the clock... depends on so many factors its unreal (one of those factors being using the correct type of fuel )

valve seat recession.

basically the heads dont have hardened valve seats, so the lead in 4star provides the protectant for the valve seat to stop it getting the shit hammered out of it... remove the lead from the fuel, n the valve eats away at the valve seat...

this can be avoided by either using the correct grade of fuel

or by fitting hardened valve seats

TAKE THE FREE STANDARD ENGINE!!!!!!

If you wanna mod it later then mod the lower mileage and FREE engine!!!!

Drop the standard free engine in now to get yourself out the shit, then when you've got the cash you can rebuild the one you took out, pistons, heads, cam etc

HAve to agree with Porkie

What a no brainer

Errrm take the free engine

Strip your shitter and take your time rebuilding it

Also VSR would take a LOT longer than the 4k you have put on the car mmm the 60k i would suggest dare i is more like 160k miles

i've just been in discussion with "my man" (aka my mate who does all the car jobs for me coz i'm to incompetent to do them myself ) a plan is being hatched

unfortunately it does require me getting my wallet out but not to anywhere near the same extent i was expecting to
