My dad has one - drive it quite a bit. Nice car - great brakes and practical. Chassis is a bit bland though - just steady understeer, and hard to upset it to drift. It's the 210bhp one, but is identical other than chip to 225.

Pretty much no lag - amazing on a 1.8 putting out that power..... 6 speed box is nice, but you keep forgetting you have a 6th, and end up doing 20 miles on the Mway in 5th

Traction control is quite unobtrusive as well.

Thinking about trying to afford one, getting rid of the turbo. Just fancy a new car, without all the knocks and rattles of my turbo.

A company called Jabba do a turbo conversion that pushes 350bhp, not too expensive and the results are awesome. The engine is gagging for more power if that's what you fancy - I've been on the track with a couple and they shift .
Look and sound good, too

And the same engine as the audi A3/S3 what a quality engine!

A simple chip pushes the cupra R too 270bhp & near on 300lbs of Torque! That for Ł500! Company called AMD did my A3..........204bhp & 224lbs all for Ł400 + VAT.

A real underrated engine!!!! Strong as an ox out of the box (CHECK ME OUT GANGSTA RAPPIN)

i think they looks the nuts,
I disagree - think they look pants, they're too like an old mk2 astra / daewoo for my liking - and too many doors for the size of car.

I think they are

Guy at work has a one (black looks mean as FUCK ) - got the 225bhp version and it does go some Very smooth, very refined, but still punches ya in the gut when ya knock it down and nail it. Got the 6sp box in his too so m'way cruising is

I was looking at em on Autotrader only earlier this eve and you can get 2001 models (Cupra 180bhp and Cupra R 225bhp version) from Ł4500 up to Ł10,000 - withe some really nice looking 225's with about 50k only going for 6-8k

There's two engine versions : 180 and 225bhp. 225 is from the Audi TT and the 180bhp is from the Skoda Octavia RS (dunno if thats the same one as the Golf tho )

Hi people .

Ive got a leon cupra r (210bhp) and had it for a year now and i cant
fault it in anyway

It makes for a pukka track car as went to nurburgring in easter with
the boys from this site and other than checking the oil once and putting
some fuel in it never missed a beat !
Also held its own against the rest of the track weapons that went out
there ! you know who im talking about !

Best drivin with the esp off as can get some nice sliding round the
bends which is all good , ask some off the passengers that jumped in
for a lap or two !

Driving sensible aswell you'll see mid 30's mpg .

Great car , i love it and it hasnt broken once and ive tried hard !

This is a brilliant car I had the 210 version, Revo Chipped to 270bhp/307lbs all for 16,000 brand new on the road..

They are lovely cars more Audi than Golf, its know as the parts bin special but thats not a bad thing when you are radding it for TT / S3 parts!..

I ran mine for 9 months and sold it for Ł500 more than I paid for it! The do drink the petrol though, because you end up gunning it everywhere !!!...

There is some excellent owners clubs as well.

Another quality sweeping statement Rick, backed up with no facts whatsoever.
