Default S1 turbo running probs

Hi,can anyone out there please help!!!!!
I have an S1 turbo which has the following intermittent fault;
when going along( no matter what speed) engine will stutter/hesitate,rev counter will drop then shoot back up again & sometimes will backfire leaving cloud of smoke?????
Can it be fuel related such as blocked filter/tank?
Have changed coil & leads but still the same

Cheers
Bob

with the rev counter dropping sounds more like an electrical fault than fuel...especially with the backfire. maybe a fault on the dizzy/low tension side of things as the rev counter is dropping....try wiggling /touching the low tension wires to the coil and dizzy when the engine is running to try and make the fault happen again....then remeber what wires you touched and look towards changing them.

also check all the contacts/connectors of wires for any of the green mank/corrosion that has a habbit of growing

good luck.

I would check your ignition wiring (especially where the connector block is) as well they have a habit of corroding
as said above really

Finally cracked it!!
After changing dizzy cap,rotor arm,plugs,coil,dizzy
A wire on the connection to amal valve was bared & was touching a braided water hose which in turn was shorting out acroos the braided oil feed to turbo ( so much so that in put a hole in oil feed mmmmmm not too much oil pi***d out!!!)
Running like a dream again
Thanks for your replies guys
regards
Bob
