the best 1900 i seen was rs si grey s2 very torquey and fast. If the engine is built right in the 1st place and good bits round it 1900 or zvh there be monsters

im personally building myself a 2.1 zvh, simply cos ive done the 1.6 cvh. but once ive done zvh, i'll be bag to the 1.9 cvh, steel bottom end, well built. i reckon the cvh will be alot more fun.

I've not had an SE engine and I'm sure people on here that have will say they're great, but a 1600 bored out to 1900?

Find a 1.9 long block or go ZVH

Throw the 8v head in the bin and use a zetec complete engine build if its BHP that interests you.

SE are shite build quality, and the other place down the road form them (oh forgotten there name now ) there much better quality and i here the level of customer service isnt too bad either! just on the zvh/ 1600 cvh Q ,I went out in a 2.1 zvh last nite for the first time and to be honest i had a s2 that was built by dean at sheppard motors and i can say there wernt much in it between the two ,dont get me wrong it was smooth but a good solid 1600 cvh built with the correct internals etc.... would probly be the same near enuff!

When you still have the same ashmatic head, extra capacity doesnt result in anywhere near a like for like gain, so a 25%+ increase in capacity wont yield anything like that sort of increase in bhp, but it will allow you to consume the same amount of air safely at a higher cr and hence drive nicer off boost, so although the peak bhp might not increase much, the area under the torque curve if you look at the whole range will increase with the extra capacity.

I had a 2.1 ZVH in my old fiesta turbo, must say I was quite impressed (used to drink fuel though) running only moderate boost not much could keep with it on the open road. My 300 bhp escort sometimes feels slower on the move but off the mark the escort wins everytime.

I heard bad stories about the 1.9 thats why i wnet ZVH route, full 16v seems a better option these days though !! - Sound nicer !!

I think people have been lucky with some of the 1900cvh from S.E. From what i understand they used the 1800 rods from sierra's fitted into an american tall block

The ZVH is difficult to build a cheap one without those niggly little problems.

The 1600CVH easy to build, parts easy and cheap to get unless your going for 230+ bhp spec

My Physics degree must be all bullshit then

No it won't. I agree with ur theory, but it just doesn't work in practice. The whole thing with the 1600 is it has a really nice power band. The torque drop off on a ZVH is horrendous. And the head is far from asthmatic - mine ported by Karl has the same VE as a std cossie engine

0 bhp at the moment

It will be around 280-300 depending on how much boost i want to run. I replaced the rods to increase the longevity of the engine rather to get more power as I was very happy with the power it was producing...... just means i can now run lots of boost if i want too
