Default some help from the cossie boys please,,,

im buildin up a cossie engine for a freinds saphire and need a lil help ,

how can i tell the difference between the inlet and exhaust cams?? as they dont seem to have any markins on them?? , also does anyone have the torque setins for the caps that hold the cams down please??

what would be good is if some one has a exploded veiw of the engine so i can see how and where each gasket goes , also there are a few what look like "dowls" would these be for the crank? ,

any help will be appreciated

Inlet and exhaust cams are indeed different, there's a groove in the middle of one of them, can't remember which so I won't take a guess.

But here's a for you

from memory the torque settings are 21 NM for the main caps then 15 NM for the front caps.

you can fit the head with the cams on i am fairly sure (just check that nothing is in the way for torquing the head bolts down).

I'll ldouble check the torque settings when i get back from work unless anyone can let you know before hand

No problems, can be done, however, a bare head is heavy enough to fit onto the block, I'd do the cams once the head is on the car.

PS: cut heads off old head bolts (two will do), and then cut a groove where the head of the bold was so you can turn them with a screwdriver.
Put the cut off bolts at two opposite corners of the block, slide the head gasket on, then place the head on the block using the cut off bolts as guides.

Fit remaining (new) head bolts (don't torque them yet), remove the cut off ones and replace with new ones.

Makes lining up the head and block a breeze (block ).

Here ya go, from the workshop manual.

Remember to always tighten the bolts in the correct sequence.
The stages below DON'T refer to engine tuning stage, do every bolt up to stage 1, then every bolt up to stage 2, then stage 3

2WD
Stage 1: 20 to 25 Nm
Stage 2: 45 to 50 Nm
Stage 3: Rotate further 170 to 180 degrees using an angle gauge.

4x4
Stage 1: 45 to 50 Nm
Stage 2: Turn 170 to 190 degrees using angle gauge.
Stage 3: Check for 110 Nm.

Head bolts CANNOT be re-used as they stretch when you torque them up.
