Default HIC are they taking the piss

Just had my renewal come through and they want another £180 ontop of wot i paid last year. Car is the same spec, same limited mileage, one more years ncb and i have moved into a lower risk area.
Is this happening to others or are they trying to shaft me

I just got a very good quote of them for my 3dr, it was the first quote I had from them though and not a renewal which might be the reason why Have you tried Greenlight? They was second cheapest for me.

They do try and shaft you on the written quote, ring them up and politely inform them they must be fooking joking They will generally sort it when you start telling them to shove it as youll go elsewhere.

The reason it always goes up, is with HIC you get a big discount in the first year, hence the price hike on year 2

i was paying HIC just under £400 for my 3 door, this was a limited mileage classic policy, any mods as long as power didnt exceed 100% increase (408bhp). i dropped the policy to a laid up one whilst it was off the road, i rang to switch it back and they wanted £1200, cant do it on a classic anymore

cheers for that ran fuckin robbery re the cancellation fees. this is why you get thumped with high % interest for monthly payments. i.e. i have always just cancelled the monthly dd and told them to piss off re any cancellation fees in the past, they never chase it but do try it on.

also i'll add here that im 31 and have a clean licence now (6 pts came off in april), i have 0 no claims on the cossie as i have another car with all my full ncb on

i have since managed to get it down to £600 with adrian flux who said they would match the ncb from my other car which i thought was good

doubt im going to get under £600 for a 400hp sierra with 0 ncb

Moonstone,

Ok.. I know Insurers are nobody's favourite subject, but you do need cover for your pride & joy.

Our pilot last year with PF allowed us to gather information and build a panel of underwriters (rather than just one) to cover PF members. Which means we can cover loads more area's than before.

Herts Insurance have been taken over by Adrian Flux, who now run them and so far it's being run as a separate entity.

Flux have always been a competitor of ours and from what we hear they do a decent job, they've been going for 35 years, we've been going for 10. But the underwriters that we both use are often similar, just have different schemes.

One reason that you may have noticed premium Increases would be due to previous abuse of the Herts classic car scheme, which Flux would not look to condone and will have been correcting.

Basically, a classic car scheme is for your mint series 1 RST, RS2000 etc that have been restored to oringinal spec and not modded. When you start placing heavily modded vehicles on there, then get audited by an underwriter (who will hit the roof) your scheme will be withdrawn.

Kind regards

Tony

Phil,

just wanted to explain how we do things at Greenlight.

We offer a decent price as a new quotation, then look to discount your renewal to reflect loyalty and our reduced administration in terms of processing all the forms, getting bonus, security, mods details etc.

If you're with us you'll find that providing you have not made a non-recoverable claim your renewal will be roughly 10% less than last year.

It's all about looking after your existing business, which makes it easier for all concerned (both you and us on the paperwork front) .

I can never understand these companies that go in way cheap first year round when their costs are really high, then hike it up at renewal which just winds you guys up unnecessarily and there's no guarantee that they can recover their "loss leader".

Anyway.. you know where we are if you need us and PM me if you're having any probs so I can improve your scheme.

Kind regards

Tony

Gave them a ring they told me the only way they could get it lower was by reducing the agreed value so in the case of a claim i would be looking at getting paid £1500 tops as thats wot the underwritters would see a 89 saph would be worth regardless of it being worth wot its worth

go on www.elephant.com and do an online quote, put a named driver on aswell and its £150 cheaper!

im with hic, i just changed my policy over on tuesday from a very modded 2.0l escort to a 1.6 b reg sierra, told em i had a quote from elephant for 300 and they nearly matched it, thin is id already payed the 621 upfront for the escort and have 7 months remaining, they would only give me 30% back if i cancelled so i stayed and they will refund me £71 so 340 + 70 does not = 620 - robbing fucks

I've insured the cossie with adrian flux this year £720. HIC wanted £1200 this year!

I did get an excellent fully comp quote from greenlight (£830) however I've had to insure the cossie in a panic this time round as my daily runner is still under repair and at the moment every penny counts.

which is a shame cause I wanted to insure the cossie on agreed value, protected ncb, fully comp etc... Ended up with a basic deal

Essex,

We can mirror your no claims bonus percentage discount onto your second car too, providing that you've no fault/non-recoverable claims within the last 4 years

Kind regards
