Just been told its looking close to needing rear tyres (348) the fronts are good..BUT i must replace all 4 or the car becomes a deathtrap....


I would imagine the rears last about 1k miles and the fronts 30k ..Something dont quite add up!

 

I've heard that as well.

theory is that you should always have more grip on the rear than the front, so most tyre dealers will always make sure if you buy reras you buy fronts too.

As you will probably only use it in the dry though, ignore them, especially as even a wrongly tyred 348 is a pussycat to handle compared to a lairy cossie like you are used to (your T38 one i mean)

 

sounds like crap to me. BUT are you sure they didn't just say you should replace that 348 with a 355 as they all Handle like death traps

 

 

Porkie..as you know little about 348's i will explain...the problem with the handling on the NON Spyder,Speciale,challenge models was the rear track...its was too short by 50mm...so what they did was add 25mm more offset to sort the problem on the models specified......mine is now the same track as the above and i can tell you it HAS transformed the handling and looks I have never driven a car that handles this well and drives so easy and sounds like an F1 car

 

Try a 355 then mate, they handle even better, like porkie said in the first place.

And if it sounds like an F1 car, you need to turn your hearing aid down a LOT!

 

And you thought cossies cost a lot too run

 

...chip maybe you need to go in a Ferrari with a tubi,decat,K&N filter and re map and hear how it sounds...maybe ask Mark to say how they sound

Yeah porkie is only making the 355 comments cause he is jealous.

He wishes he could afford 25K (ish) for a 348 with dubious history instead of spending about 80K (my complete guess, i may be miles out) on his 3door.

and he wishes he could afford 2K for a service, even though he spent 3500 on a night out geting pissed in prague.

Im jealous of porkie for his pockets perhaps, but only in a way where i respect him for what he has earnt for himself, not in a way that would make me have a pop at him, i dont ever get like that with anyone as i dont know of anyone who i would want to swap lives with off hand, im actually very happy with how things are for me right now.

Phil, my mini project owes me most of that, throw in what ive spent on my 3door and i would have change, so what part of me affording it seems to inplausable? :S

Plus, like most people, i could always just take 20K equity out of my house if was bothered for that matter.

Its NOT a very expensive car, most people on here could buy one if they tried i suspect.

 

Phil, just make sure you get some nice super sticky tyres for the back. And then go have fun.

 

..already said anyone could buy one...but 30k is really a minimum to get a fully ready to go car.....not many have the balls though when they realise just how much everything costs and the frequentcy it needs doin...so to sum up..affording to buy one and keeping it running are 2 very different things.

..and i aint rich enuff to say wether i can afford to run it yet!!!!

Ive got enough money for what i want/need at the moment, so doesnt really bother me if other people have more than me or less than me to be honest.

 

I love the car, but I can't possibly see how you could find the 348 better looking than a 355?

Pon.....from the front and side with the proper track the 348 is better looking...the back is in debate..as i am growing to love my arse

The 355 is derived from the 348 remember....yes it has many improvements like a lighter clutch and power steering for the ladies..modern interior....but the 348 is just raw..lovely feel.....also i beleive the 348 is fully depreciated now whereas the 355 has a lot to drop!

As said its nowhere NEAR 20k better.

 

at the end of the day it has a ferrari badge on the back so its all good

The change all 4 tyres is a new one on me!!!!!...They didnt say i HAD too..just recommended in there experience......i will obviously only change 2!....and find out for myself but i suspect the wider track has cured all the handling niggles

to be honest it was the way you said that anyone who doesnt like it are probably jealous and couldnt probably afford one anyway. i could afford a brand new one if i wanted. but i just wouldnt buy one as there not my cup of tea.

 

Phil, if people say not replacing the fronts will make the car a death trap....is it really worth saving a few hundred quid, if there is even the remote possibility your life (and others) may be at risk?

They gave no reason then? Think about it, how are slightly worn tyres on the front gonna make a car dangerous?

I guess its only a nice weather car so prob better grip from the part worn tyres anyway. Save ya money
