Default Loads of websites wont work for me today- why?

whole computer seems slow, but a lot of sites (about 50% of ones tried, inc driftworks, gtr forum, and so on) it just comes up "cannot find server. page cannot be displayed" business like the site is down.

surely all them sites arnt down?

whats up with my PC and how can i fix it?

did a virus and spyware scan already
