Sump gasket leaking very bad

Default Sump gasket leaking very bad

finally got car back on road but the bloody sump gasket has gone on both ends its a lot worse at gearbox end whats the best way to fit these as ive not used silicone just few dots superglue to hold it in place??? any other ideas as this didnt work if not it will be going to garage as i cant be arsed to do it

use black gasket sealer as this is fukin mint, had the same problem ok now

might give it a go dont really want to use any sealant i see that you can get a cork gasket but its for a series 1 will this fit???? as thought they were all same engines dont no if sumps are diffrent????

Yes i had the same problem. The way I sorted it was to superglue the new gasket to the sump and leave it overnight and then put the sump with gasket back onto the block bedded on Hylomer, no problems since.

i had to do it three times before i made it seal. eventually i tried it without sealer and it was fine. IMO the sealer acts as a slippy surface for the gasket to slide about on and move under pressure. I will never use sealer again

just get the job done properly, with a NEW gasket , messing about with sealer is only a TEMP soloution is it not ?

it was a new sump gasket fitted i would rather fit just gasket and not any sealant


will give it a try again tomorow after work

there are two sump gaskets jon, a two piece which is early one, and a one piece,

is this a series 1 bottom end and sump u have put in? if u have fitted a series 2 sump gasket on a series 1 sump, it will leak where u have said

if u fit a proper series 1 sump gasket and yours is a series 1 bottom end, u will need a bit of sealer on the sides where the circle cut outs are

no its a series 2 engine just got a new gasket today so will give it ago on wednesday if cant do it taking it to apt as need car setting up anyway

seal it first with sealer black stuff then screw the bolts in after set!!

Clamp it down first
