Default FAO People who know about car alarms

I need a new remote for the Cat 1 alarm on my Fiesta.

I contacted a company called www.alarmremotes.co.uk They said they could supply me with a replacement remote but I would need the model number which is marked on the unit near the harness.

I didn't know what he meant, so I asked for some further instructions. This is the reply I got:

"Look under the bonnet for the siren. if the harness going into this unit looks like it only carries about 2~4 wires then the main unit is under the dashboard. If the harness carries more than 2~4 wires then that is the control unit as well. Where the harness goes into the unit you should see the model number..."

Now I've looked and I can't find the unit or a model number anywhere, the siren only has one big wire going into it and the company that fitted the alarm no longer trade.

Can anyone help as it's important that I get a new remote asap.

Thanks in advance.

Centurion

I've got the certificate but I don't think it tells you the model number.

How big's the wire? Sounds like a loom (bunch of wires) to me from your description.

Best not to post pics online of the unit as it'll help the enterprising underclass to nick it if they spot the pic, but the more description you can give the better...?

Worst comes to the worst, take it to a car security shop and get them to ID it for you.

(Might also be worth a visit to Ford's to make sure it's not one of their's).

The wire is probably about 1.5 cm in diameter. I think it is a loom too.

If the unit is under the dashboard, whereabouts would it be and how can I get to/see it?

It's not a Ford alarm, I had it fitted when I bought the car in 1999.

Might have to go to a car security shop then and get them to ID it for me.

The guy from www.alarmremotes.co.uk has told me today that they no longer make replacement remotes for that Centurion model and that they are 'rolling code' systems and the fobs can't be copied.

So basically, I'm stuffed!

One working remote, no locks, no handles, no ideas!

Anyone think of anything?

The only thing I can think of his a whole new alarm system.

I'm fed up!

Mossy XR2 Turbo,

I understand what you mean, though (hopefully i'm not tempting fate), I have had 4 or 5 cliffords and not one has let me down big style... though i do sometimes have nil responce from the remote on the van one, but i simply activate the warn away by walking up to indow, then disarms fine
