Mk2 XR2 - TB's Sold - New Engine Soon
A little update
Been a while since I got anything done to this, (but haven't just had my thumb up my arse), my bro's Golf has been done, compeltely gutted out the garage, and just generally enjoying her as she was, done a few shows this year as well.
Came home from work today to find my bro was getting stuck into fitting my 40's, so got changed and we got stuck in.

Pics showing where we mounted the fuel pump and regulator, the holes that we mounted the fuel pump onto where there already, so no need to drill the shell

What happens when you get a gasket and you find out it's the wrong one? Sit down and cry and wait till the next day like a ringstabbing cumbucket? No, you make one! (And it's All Bran, so it's a healthy gasket
) Bodge It Extrordinare! My mate Chris was given this job.

My bro's chrome rocker cover from his Mk3 XR3 shell which was in the garage (and has been for 5 years) was nicked, given a coat of AutoGlym metal polish, and voila, BLING!

A little vid of the 40's just ticking over
http://ecosse.danzweb.net/C134HON_002.AVI
So that was it tonight. While I'm at work tomorrow, my bro is gonna get the cam in and sort a few little niggly bits, so all systems go! 8)

Well, got a little more work done last night.
I was at a loose end last night with naff all to do, so decided I would get my finger out and finally get my suspension fitted.
Done the rear last night cause I've never been really happy with how light the back has felt, so got that done. Took ages cause I was arsing about doing it.
But took the old ones off, all came off without too much trouble (it was the original Motorcraft springs and struts that were on it, so, they are being put into storage if I ever want to return the car to standard) And fitted my Jamex struts & springs.
So, that was the rear done last night, took her for a blast to settle them in, and the car just feels so much better, alot tighter feeling from the rear, just gives me so much more confidence in the car. She doesn't sit too much lower (which is great, cause I don't really want her to be low, I think Fiesta's don't suit being on there arse, only Golfs look cool that way).
Never got pics cause the camera was being a cow and wouldn't switch on. But I'll be doing the front tomorrow so will get pics tomorrow.

Maybe it helps to decide whether my bodykit will be colour coded or not...
Been a while since my last update but here we are:
No pics as the camera is being shite.
But, I've beginning to unleash the bufty within.
She's been jacked up, and I've been getting stuck in underneath with gunk, a brush and a hose (because my pressure washer has given up the ghost as well) It's coming up pretty good, but I'll need to get a hold of a mate who works in a valeters to get some TFR and use the pressure washers they have, should have the car done in half the time then, but so far looking good.
I'm not trying for anything concours, but just to get her as clean as she can be for a daily driver.

After sorting the head out, last week the bottom decided it didn't like oil anymore and dropped it from every orifice possible.
So, engine & box have been dropped out it and in their place:
Mk3 XR3 block
S2 head
Piper 285 cam
S1 LSD box
RST clutch
And then my 40's and Ashley as well, so get it out tonight to see what she can do

Got my camera working again:

Windscreen banner I got made up today, looks alright, can't complain for Ł15

Goodbye ignition module!!!

Hello late spec dizzy!

The suspension I put on it dropped it a bit, just enough IMO, don't want it any lower

The windscreen banner is GONE, it wasn't sitting right at all, and I just got rid of it.

A couple of in car vids, sorry about the quality as it's only a crappy camera I have, and also sorry about the loss of sound throughout them, probably because i had the window open at the time
The 2nd vid is strange, as it seems to be going really slow at points and then really fast at others.

Well guys, it's been a long time, and alots happened to the little XR2.
After that bottom end giving way and being replaced it was never the same, the bottom end that went into it was turd and after about a month that let go too (the Friday before the Fast Ford day at Crail) so I changed the bottom end to an extremely sweet EFi block and got it running on the Saturday, but then it started snapping HT leads for fun, and then decided it didn't want to run. Changed the dizzy, coil, leads and it still wouldn't run, so got peed off with it, and put it off the road mid October (it was going off the road at the end of October anyway)
And it's been sat there since.
But now I'm finally doing what I've been planning since I bought the car and all the purists can bugger off as it's my car, and what fun is having a standard car?
But anyway, the car is getting this spec (And 99% of this is bought, awaiting delivery)
2.0 16v Zetec (Silver Top)
Weber Alpha 45 Throttle Bodies
Weber Alpha Cams
Weber Alpha Engine & Ignition Management
Vernier Pulley's
Ashley 4 Branch & System
5 bar fuel pump
S1 RST LSD G'box
Powerflex Polyurethane Bushes all round
Ferodo DS2000 Pads
Tar.Ox Monza Grooved & Drilled Discs
Goodridge Braided Brake Hoses
Dot 5.1 Fluid
Weber Alpha state that this spec will give 185bhp on a 2.0 Zetec with standard manifold and CAT's, but since it's not a brand new engine I'm using it will have lost power over time, but I will regain some with the 4 branch manifold and the fact I don't have any CAT's. So IU reckon it should be around 180bhp at the fly, any more and I'll be extremely happy.

Just ordered my Ashley manifold and manifold wrap from Rally Design (very helpful and good prices
)
Only things left to buy are a clutch and an engine. The one I was meant to go getting previously has fallen through, so will be getting one shortly.

Kaf, the XR2 won't be at the PassionFord meet, it won't be out until at least March.
Saw the pics of that black one before, the tints and the Jap back box don't do it for me.

Kaf - I've never planned for the car to be back on the road before March, it's been off the road since October so that it's not being driven through all the shitey salt. And I'm gonna take my time getting her ready for the road, no point in spending all this money and then roll out with it as a bag of bolts.
Dave - Yeah, finally made my mind up, and when she rolls out, it's gonna be a great laugh
Cheers Jonny

Thats my manifold and wrap here today! A huge bigup to Rally Design and Ashey, as usual, great product and very fast delivery.

As you can see, the exhaust comes with a threaded hole already in it for a lamda senser, so makes life easier for me if I ever want to get a AFR Meter
Also, the manifold is actually 2 1/4" for the Ashley XR2 Challenge system, whereas the road system is only 2", but when I asked for the reducer that Ashley do, so I hope it shouldn't be too much work to get it perfect on the car.
Can't wait till the rest of the bits start arriving.

Meant to put these pics up here when I got these through:
When Weber Alpha say they give you everything for their kit, they really aren't kidding, you get fooking everything, as you can see, they even give you the correct number of cable ties to use!!!

My ECU:

My loom:

A few pics showing the LOADS of bits and bobs WA give you:

Throttle cable and linkages:

Fuel cut off & dunno what the red thingy is:

Water Temp senser:

The fitting instructions:

The new inlet manifold:

Fuel pressure regulator, in steel, anodised red, looks cool as fuck!:

The injectors:

The fuel rail, in some sort of polyurethane rubber type stuff:

Inlet trumpets, in the same kinda rubber as the rail:

The cams, turns out that these are Piper Cams, the spec of which is unknown at the minute, it's what is supplied with WA's Platinum Kit:

The Throttle bodies, looking SWEET if I do say so:

Each TB is individually stamped with a date of when they were manufactured, mines were made on the 22/02/06

I'm still waiting on my airfilters, vernier pulleys and fuel pump, but I am sooooooooo unbeliveably chuffed that these are here, haven't stopped smiling since I knew they were here

Got the radiator out:

Twin 40's out:

Ashley 4 branch, starter & alternator out:

Empty bay:

Hubs stripped of calipers & shocks:

Got the front panel of the kit off:

Cleaning the bay up:

Must have been the date that the kit was put on:

Found this rust underneath the front panel of the kit between the front panel and the wing, I am so unbelieveably gutted that it's got some rust!! Just glad that I found it the now and not when it's worse later on. This is a pic of it all ground back, just need to put loctite rust remedy onto it tomorrow and it'll be fine again:

Started painting up parts of the running gear:

This is a brand new steering rack, painted it up:

So thats been the progress of Day 1, and I'll get back into it tomorrow again, so expect more pics tomorrow too

Cleaned up my hubs ready for painting, knocked them off the shaft, and the bearing fell to pieces, so I'll get some new pieces ASAP.

A couple of pics of the dash before we started to take it out:

The dash coming out:

Steering column & heater matrix removed:

Brake bar and master cylinder removed:

Prepping the bay up for seam welding:

My new engine for her, finally picked it up tonight
:

My brothers off work tomorrow, so he'll be (hopefully) working on it while I'm at work tomorrow, and then I'll get stuck in too once I'm home. so, hopefully there will be more progress tomorrow.

27th March
Ground down the little bits of surface rust and put Loctite Rust Remedy on top:

Ground down the rust on both sides, and totally soaked it in the rust remedy:

Stripped the inlet & the exhaust off the engine:

Also cleaned up and painted one of the hubs as well, but forgot to get a picture of that.
So, not so much progress tonight, but since I don't get home from work till 7pm it's not soo bad, but back to it tomorrow again
28th March
A touch more progress tonight:
Doing more seam welding preperation, as my mate is coming tomorrow night to start on the seam welding:

While using the circular wire brush on the drill that I've been using on a little scabby bit on the inner wing, it turned into this:

A pic showing the actual size of it in relation to my thumb, I know it's tiny, but still

Got the alternator, starter and box off the engine, when my mates doing the seam welding tomorrow, my and my bro will get on with cleaning the engine up ready to be painted:

New waterpump for it:

2x wheel bearings for the front
Also got new track rod ends and new ball joints coming tomorrow too, so will be 99% brand new on the front end.
