Default why would my brake pedal go rock solid while driving ?

my car was spluttering just now , tried to stop, and the brake pedal was rock solid , has anyone got any idea why ?

even when i did stop, there was very little movement , maybe an inch or 2 , normally theres a LOT more. could it be servo / master cyl problems ?

ive just spent a lot of money on things to solve another problem, now i have this issue, any ideas people ? ?

Servo not holding vacuum anymore due to an air leak?

possibly cos ya car was spluttering mate the engine nearly died so the servo lost pressure making ya pedal feel hard, are they ok now ?

If its a RST, then the problem with the splutering could be the same as whats causing your brake pedal to go firm, any air leaks on the ke-jet system will make the car run rough, and from the sound of it, you either have a dodgy vacuume pipe to the servo, or a buggered servo.

When the car is switched off pump the pedal a couple of times untill its solid, then whilst holding down the btrake pedal start the car, if the vacuume on the servo is working the pedal should drop/become easy to press.
If not you have a problem

its cossie mangement i have no jet tronic , and yes the pedal stays hard after doing the test you described, it does go down a little but not much......i know it needs a proper map for my car, and it might not be worth doing until i have a new servo BUT it was better than this , i had to have some work done and i have a new '' base map '' im going to look at the mappping and hopefully improve it a little to stop the spluttering as it didnt do that before , i know i shouldnt until i have a new servo , but even a slight improvement will be better !!, new servo is on the way

I have cossie management on my Series 1, and when it was first fitted i just used a standard ECU and 4x4 standard blue injectors, it didnt splutter at all, could be that you have a sensor fault somewhere, if you have an air leak on the car with cossie stuff on, it will cause the revs to rise.

Hope you sort it mate.
