S1 dash sensor lights
forgot what theyre all for, i think theres 4 in total:
1. skooshy bottle level
2. oil level?
3. header tank water level
4??
Anyway, i want to get all these working properly again, and was wondering if anone knows if the sensors can still be bought from ford?
how is it they operate?
when ignition is turned on they flash then the ones that work go out and the ones that dont work/need levels filled stay on?
i need to check what sensors it is i need, if any!

dip stick is green with plug on it, brake pad warning light (i think) and fuel light are the 5 on the dash, dont know how many people have got em all still working,
plug on dipstick is missing on mine, header tank one reads wrong, brake one
disconnected, washer bottle one works, and fuel light works

i forget which ones work on mine, but i had the green dipstick with sensor on it, but when i filled it upto the correct level (on a D plate S2 engine?) it was overfilled with oil
so i assume the D plate oil stick holder is longer?
Brake pad wear sensors, they can get to buggery.

Not sure if you can get the header tank/washer bottle sensors any more but you could probrably get them off a mk3 in the breakers as theyre interchangeable, the green dipstick with the sensor you can still get new from Ford
but theyre about £60
Im not sure if there's a sensor for the brake pads as far as im aware the light just comes on if the circuit from the brake pads gets broken

The lights are:
brake pad warning lamp,
oil level warning lamp,
washer fluid warning lamp,
coolant level warning lamp,
fuel lamp.
When you turn on the ignition, they light up for about 2 seconds then either go out if all the levels are ok, flash if you have a fault on that particular circuit or stay on if you have a low level.
On mine, start it up, they all come on with the ignition then when the engine is running 2 of the amber lights (brake pad wear indicators and engine oil level: bottom left and bottom 3rd left)) flash around 1/2 dozen times then stay off.
This is because my dipstick connector is not connected to anything, and the brakes & calipers are S2 ones so probably haven't had the wear indicator wires re-fitted. So the car is telling me that those 2 circuits are not working at all & will not illuminate if there is a problem with these circuits (as in low oil, or low pads).
As for getting them working: all depends on which ones are knackered in the first place.
brake pad warning lamp : sensors prob disconnected from the calipers or wires cut.
oil level warning lamp: fit new dipstick, or connect wire if it is still there
washer fluid warning lamp: not sure on this: not had proper look at one off the car, but guessing similar to the header tank
coolant level warning lamp: this is the 'filler-cap' at the bottom of the header tank.
fuel lamp: Make sure the bulb works. Think it's a new sender unit if it doesn't. Or maybe try totally filling the tank, as the sender is a 'float' & may be stuck up the top & refilling may re-float it.

Its best to take the stick down to the ford dealers and show them, to be honest i didnt think they still had them in stock (my old one had lost the wires and the connector that comes out the top

£68 for an injector
, i take it theyre not the same as the XR3i/RSi ones
a set of four new Bosch ones for the RSi only cost me £120

I have just bought a genuine ford dealer workshop manual which gives a very thorough run down on how to test all of the warning lights and sensors.
The wires on the dipstick on mine were broken off flush but I repaired it and it works fine now.
All you need is a test meter.
PM me your address and I can post you a photocopy if you want.
