Default Felpro Headgasket

I have a Felpro Headgasket (CVH704) that I use in my standard S2. Now I've heard in a german forum that it maybe thicker than the OE Ford gasket. Can it be that the compression ratio of my engine has now been lowered and I'm actually loosing power? The car seems to be down on power and it maybe since the gasket has been fitted.

I wouldn't have thought that a change of headgasket would make a noticable difference to be honest. Probably more to do with the set up...

Can I ask though why you went for a Felpro gasket rather than a Ford one?

That's what I thought either. Maybe someone else knows more about it. Well, I went for gasket because I wanted more bhp at a later date. But since then I've read that the standard one can take plenty of power. It's already some years ago since I build it in. Unfortunately I've not driven it often in the last years

By the way great work you did on your car!

Thanks S2- MAN

Maybe, it might just seem to be slower as you havn't driven it for a while???

And yeah, Std Ford gasket can easily handle 300+ bhp

It feels slower than my 1994 XR3i with 105BHP and I even couldn't get past a mate's 2001 Zetec-S (103BHP) Maybe the cam is already worn as the car has covered about 63000 miles. Is there a cam which is standard and doesn't have the pickup for the fuel pump of the carburettor versions. I've heard this causes problems.

i had same prob wit mine running felpro head gasket it was 0.40mm thicker and the cylinder bores were 87.60mm which is like 7mm wider than std gasket, cant go wrong wit ford ones.

Had a Felpro on mine and the bugger burnt through between pistons 3 and 4 mid tear up with a 911 on the dual carriageway

Replaced it since with a genuine Ford jobbie and she's been good as gold since

ive got a ford one on mine, been fine, always here good things about them,

also if your engine is now lower compression, its more than likely now to produce less power than it did, lower compression needs more boost

payen gaskets are top quality, nothing special like multi layer steel jobbies but imo they are the best.

I've read before that Payen produce the gaskets for Ford. I've used elring before too with no problems (on a N/A 1.6).

Best go with Ford stuff, if people use them sucessfully with over 250PS then why bother with anytrhing else?
