Default S2 help needed

Got the gearbox fitted last weekend and need to get the cooling fan sorted as it's....er....not cooling, and the engine is overheating but when i took it for a spin it keeps stalling at every junction.
I have to use the handbrake and keep the revs up so it doesn't stall.
Any ideas as to what it could be?

check the dip stick is pushed in fully and the oil cap is on and tight.

I sounds like an air leak causing it to idle low and stall.

Kim as per Andys reply the staling does sound like an air leak, a common cause of this is either a hole or split in 1 of your boost hoses. Or an Dumpvalve that aint working propperly. Do you have a dumpvalve fitted?

The problem with the fan could be down to a number of factors, shouldnt be a major problem to diagnose.

No, don't have a dump vaulve and the intercooler is from a 2wd cosworth.
I checked the hoses and there's a leak coming from one going into the petrol tank????? The oil cap is on properly and the dip stick is in tight.

are you saying you got a petrol leak? If so dont drive it or even start it without getting it fixed PROPERLY 1st!

The hoses that can cause stalling are the main boost hoses (there big hose) that might cause an air leak.

What fan have you got? Is it the standard RST fan?

Tony: It cuts out immediately from cold
AndyRST: Got a new fuel hose on order!!!!!!! I'm pretty sure it's a standard S2 fan.

Hi Kim... Andy Grangers old one?!!

Dont suppose you have had the rocker cover off have you? The slightest kink in the gasket on refitting with make the car run like a dog! Also, check the breather pipe going from the right hand side of the rocker, down to the block (crank case breather).

In fact, take it off and blow it through as these are common to block with ....crap basically!

As for the heating problem, I think Andy did a headgasket before on it? I think I got that from the RSBB. Anyway, obveously no sign of crud in the oil cap or on the header tank?

Know what you mean Kim.

Have you got a compression tester?
If so, do one (pref with the engine warm). Naturally do one at a time and the readings should be between 130 -140 psi on each cylinder. If there is a significant drop on one or more cylinders, there is a problem.

If they are below 120, its not lookin that good!

Get back to me if you need a hand.... where are you btw?
