Its not even like its a new word FFS, we were calling each other chav fookin at least 12 years ago when I was about 13...
Was it anywhere else that long ago? Or does that sorta prove it "really" is (as a lot of newspapers etc say in their ghey news stories) short for CHeltenham AVerage?
(bearing in mind that where im from)

I thought it meant 'Council Housed And Violent' ?
Either way, it seems to be the term of choice for anyone who acts like a cnut, and i totally agree with that, If your not going to comply with the standards society set, then why not be cast aside as a Chav....it happened to lepers.
also, before anyone says 'blah blah blah i got the right to act how i want' Well, erm, not really. Not when it involves been a total prat, making others lives a misery, and desecrating a 10 mile radius of where you live.

A chav is any tracksuit-wearing, trousers-tucked-into-socks, baseball-capped, sovereign-ring-wearing cnut.
Caps have the unique ability to make anyone look a total Bellend imo

Steve's absolutely spot on.
It is just a buzz word that newspapers grab and overuse as they always do. I mean how the fuck can Britney spears be a chav when she's american, famous, and loaded?
As far as I know, the term originates as a nickname for a gypsy child - as the families have integrated into the communities in Kent and the the south east, then they style of trying to look fashionable and loaded on the cheap has spread.
The newspapers all seem to miss the point that it's all about over extravagance at minimal cost.

Well bearing in mind Chavie is actual proper Gyppo language for Kids, and I was brought up on council estates and schools full of Gyps, I see know why we all used to call each other it back in the day, and now I think about it, we used to always say Chavvie when I first remember hearing it (like said, a good 12years+ ago), not Chav, it turned to Chav over time tho.
But as PON said, im spot on, as ever

i can't believe a stupid word like that is in the oxford dictionary. some twat is trying to get "yeah-but-no-but" or whatever it is (from little britain) in the dictionary. this country is going downhill, fast.
