The "hole" on your turbo is for the water feed
The turbo you got is the tbo355 which is water and oil cooled, the S1 turbo (tbo354) is on the hand not water cooled.
You could run it without water but I would suggest running water.

Example
This is a S1 turbo

And this is a S2 turbo, notice the water pipes..

where does the feed come from ? and why would it have been left off ? , i dont want to add water then later find out that there is a prob with the turbo and the water and oil have mixed ?

can anyone tell me where the water feed comes from and how i should correctly configure the water cooling on my turbo unit ?

The water and oil will not mix because the housing you have is made so that it is oil AND water-cooled. The standard S2 hose from the rad to the thermostat housing has a small outlet that goes into the big 90 degree pipe.

In this picture you can see the water hose has a small outlet and that goes to the big 90 degree bend pipe. This is where the water runs into the turbo

You need the pipes and bolts off a S2 turbo unit. But if you have had the hole in your turbo for a long time I would flush it to be sure that no foreign objects are in there and could go into the rad.

ok so where is the outward water pipe on the turbo, im keeping up so far , i know that the hole is for a feed, so where will the water come back out from, or should i disconnect from the return on the rad and flush that way >?

my pipe has no such feed, it goes right from the rad to the therm, and its a samco pipe ? ,im now confused,

now im going to sound really dumb, if the water feed is where that hole is, then where is the exit hole / pipe ?

On the other hand, if you add the watercooling to the turbo you would help your turbo to an easier and cooler life, but your water temps would go up.

ive just add an alloy cooler, id rather have the extra water through the unit than not , am i likely to damage the turbo with no water feed?
