Anyone done RWD Conversion?
Front Engined Rear wheel drive
Mid Engined Rear wheel drive
What engine is he hoping to use?
Vauxhall c20xe with a ford type 9 gearbox is a popular choice for such conversions, its a massive project to take on though, and anyone who doesnt know what it involves shouldnt be attempting it really IMHO.
You could try and use the Mi16 or 1.9gti engine but i suspect you may have issues getting it to lean over enough to stay at similar orientation (you will get oil movement issues if you dont) but im not aware of an adaptor to fit to a rwd box or a sump that would work with that engine.

But probably (based on second hand stuff)
Few hundred quid for half decent engine
Few hundred quid for adaptor plate and sump
Few hundred quid for manifold
Few hundred quid for exhaust
Few hundred quid for diff/rear beam etc
Then a few weeks work, at 40 hours a week at 40 quid an hour.
So ballpark figure 5K+
PON, hence the extreme vagueness of my answer, just trying to highly approx what is involved.
Loads of other minor things though, like for exmaple if using an engine like the 20XE i suggested it wont fit with the dizzy in its normal position so you have to relocate that etc.

Would be quite quick
Should handle ok (although not like a 205 anymore, would be a different character)
Cons, cossie gearbox is a bit chocolatey (evo box would be better bet)
cossie engine sits wrong way round to fit nicely (evo running would be better bet for this reason too)
Going to cost him 10K+ realistically all in

(you changed your mind to 4wd a few posts ago didnt you?)
If its for a track car, then do it MR instead, will handle better anyway if properly setup, and is simpler in a lot of ways (he can use existing engine and box and driveshafts etc for example)
But better still for a trackcar just leave the fooking thing alone!
205 gti's handle fantastically in FWD guise if properly setup, so why would you want to convert one to RWD?
Sounds like a dreamer who hasnt thought things through!

What would be best you think, hes gonna appreciate all the comments so might aswel knock em out, He wanted RWD originaly because mostley every performance car is RWD ie: Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche etc..

Porsche - can be bought in 4wd format
There is no way that your mate is a skilled enough driver that it has to be RWD for that reason.
If he's that skilled, then he should be able to hussle a 205GTi round a track quicker than nearly every other car out on the circuit in 99% of cases.
Brother's old 205 tarmac car was devistatingly quick and handled far better than most cossies I've ever seen

He will spend a LOT of money just to get where he would be in the first place if he bought an escort mk2 or a manta or something in the first place.
The shells arent exactly the most sturdy thing in the world, they crack around the back end just from cornering hard.
The only real redeeming feature they have is the fantastic handling but thats going to be irrelevant as none of the suspension etc will remain, so its not going to be a 205 anymore, just a mk2 escort or similar that happens to look like a 205.
Pointless waste of time when he could just buy a 3door for the same money and use that if he wants rwd cossie power.
It would actually hold its value too then
