What engine is he hoping to use?

Vauxhall c20xe with a ford type 9 gearbox is a popular choice for such conversions, its a massive project to take on though, and anyone who doesnt know what it involves shouldnt be attempting it really IMHO.

You could try and use the Mi16 or 1.9gti engine but i suspect you may have issues getting it to lean over enough to stay at similar orientation (you will get oil movement issues if you dont) but im not aware of an adaptor to fit to a rwd box or a sump that would work with that engine.
