I have heard there was a 2.3 V6, i have never seen one though but it may be what you have.
Engines were 2.3 I4 RS2000 lump, 2.0 SOHC VW PB engine ala golf GTI, 1.9 tdi vw engine & the 2.8 VR6 golf engine.
It is a big box though as has been said, the clutch feed is from the brake reservior and the slave cylinder is part of the release bearing i think.
You'll have to take the battery out as the mount is under there, the shafts will have allen key bolts and the linkage is cable so no real troubles there.

Well I can only speak from experience. But we were doing 6 hours labour on Sharans. You have to BOLT the engine support to the front wings due to the steep angle the bonnet sits at. Battery and battery tray out just for starters.
Proper Proper Wanker job

fookinell man , there a pretty straight forward job, done loads and loads now , i work in the VW group and think the sharn/galaxy/alhambra are an easy vehicle to work on, a clutch change by the book is 4.7 hours , less than 3 in reality to do with a bit of experiance , tho the VR6 variant is a bit of a pig,
but to answer the Q, not too bad to do

And Plug change on a VR6 Sharan.Nothings impossible, but not much bloody fun either.
I'll admit though that I really dont care about them. Probably started when they had that brake recall issue a few years back.
Much prefered doing Golfs and Polos
Rich_w,
Ever changed the Ecu on one?
Ever changed the Ecu on one?
come on how very wrong man, dash clocks out ... yes , not the dash
What about the fooking Pollen filter
early ones are a piece of piss man, later type charcoal impregnated are even thicker - slightly more difficult but no need to remove anythin extra

Re : The ECU. Oldish car. One of the first IIRC (remeber this was 98) The bracket that holds it in broke. So like you say normally clocks out. But when the bracket breaks, you cant get a screwdriver (even a stubby) in to undo it. So we had the entire dash out to change a stupid bracket.
Oh and dont get me started on their in-ability to keep rain water outside the car.
You're very defensive about these heaps of crap. Do you work for VW?
We were forever saying "Stupid Ford design" and the guys down the road at Fords were probably saying "Stupid VW design"
