Not what I wanted to hear
Last night, parked up with my mate Kim, who hasnt seen my car yet. I hadnt turned of my engine as I didnt intend to be there long
And she exclaimed "fucking hell Julz, your car needs oil! Listen to it, really chappy"
And it definetly dont need oil. I didnt really notice it but after she pointed it out I totally did, obviously not as bad as the 1.1 J reg fiestas u hear screaming about but kinda the same idea!! It didnt do that before, just wander if theres any reason for it and anything I can do to kinda stop it giving off the popular plus impression
Cheers

Would you believe this...
The exhaust manifold gasket can also cause this noise and they deteriate very quickly anyway
Get a new one and replace it in any case, but regards to tapping...
Try depressing clutch fully, see if it deisaperas - clutch release bearing!
Change oil to Mobil Motorsport 15w40 - use new filter too, ideally at 4,000 miles intervals
Do not however get new hydrolic lifters (tappets) and use on an old camshaft - don't do no good for the engine - and it will only get noiseyer!!
All of the above worth checking

One Question, does the car rattle Excessively when started from cold?
As said above, do an oil change, as the car might have 0-40 oil in it, which is just to thin for a CVH engine, and when warm when the oil is really thin will make the car tap or rattle.

Hope you get it sorted.

replace cam every 10k.
buy a cam kit, your standard cam is problerly fooked now anyway, and will quickly ruin new tappets u install, just go for a not so lairy cam, like a kent cvh 34 or something, if u intend to keep it standard.
my standard cam lasted about 120k then it just started eating tappets up every couple of months!

Never heard of a CVH cam going after only 10,000 miles
If i remember right, the last owner of your car didnt use it that much? if that was the case it could be that now the car is doing some mileage it has loosend up a bit, causing the tappets/lifters to make a noise.
Does it make more noise when its cold or just when its hot?
How many miles has the car done now.
when was its last service?
If it comes to it fitting a cam and followers is a very simple job, anyone who is reasonably competent with a set of spanners can do it.

Anyway, also depends on what oil is used and what consistancy
It's generally exhaust tappet and lobe on no1 cylinder that go, for some reason it doesn't seem to get as much oil as the others, just by turning the engine over by hand with the tappets removed, it's plain to see that only a small amount of oil is getting through compared to the other tappet bores. Maybe 2 oilway bores dont quite meet perfectly or something...I'd take a close look but I only noticed once the head was screwed down, while checking that the oil pump was full and working. Next time the head is off I'll try and take a closer look - or maybe cut an old head in half to find out how the oil flows around it, and if anything can be done.

I'm sure with regular oil changes cams will "last" 100k+ and the engine will run fine, it always makes me laugh when you read in car mags that they take an old s2 and dyno it, then stick in a performance cam and dyno it again and obviously you see a nice big increase, but personally i think they should dyno it with a NEW ford cam before fitting a NEW performance cam, i'm pretty sure the increase wouldn't be as big. just my own little opinion of course but these engines arn't the best designed at getting oil to the top

Thas quite true, cos at high speed at high revs you can hear the tappets bleading Dry where the oil aint getting to em.
