Battery tray area
Fuse box area
Back of sunroof on the roof
Under the sills
Rear arches
Tyre well in boot

Them are common places for rust.

As for other faults listen to bottom end rattling (good sign it needs a rebuild)

Bit of grey smoke on startup is your valve stem sills, cheap and easy to fix.

Blue smoke on hard acceleration is your turbo knackered.

Good choice glen. My only worry is you buy a poor example and end up hating them!

Another place there bad for is under the roofline gutter above the back windows, u get some nasty bubbles going on in that area sometimes.

Good luck and let us know how you get on hun

if you get a nice looking one, chances are a cheap car will have engine probs youll need to fix,if you get a mechanically sound motor ,bodywork or chasis components will need attention, either way your gonna pay,get a good one with receipts, best advice, get any colour too.as youll grow to love a good motor!whatever the colour. pay a bit more,
