Just wondering, when you get your little slips from say Santa Pod, does the 1/4 ET include the response time off the line, or does the 1/4 mile timer start from the moment you cross the line ?

If they are combined in the ET, would it be fair to substract the response time from the ET to get a "real" 1/4 mile time ?

The timer starts from the moment the green light shows

the timer goes the moment you start MOVING.

if you sit on the line for 10 seconds, then go, those 1st 10 seconds mean NOTHING to the time.

hence why it's advised to NOT try and go on the green if you're wanting toput in a good time... sit there, take your time and go when you're ready. nobody takes a blind bit of notice of the response times anyway tbh

How come that in drag racing competitions they lauch as soon as possible then ? Is that to avoid blowing the engine standing still ? Or, is the reaction time taken into account to increase the level of competition ?

They are racing each other, you are racing the clock.

 

In drag racing getting the best reaction time is proof of how alert you are really,

The reaction doesn't count for anything but if 2 drivers could run 300+mph side by side with excellent reaction times then it just shows how good both of them are even though there is only one winner.

someone probably has a better explanation for it than me though lol

 

As has been said, the reaction time isnt included in the 1/4 mile time.

When they are racing its whoever gets to the end first though, the timer isnt really needed to see who the winner is in that respect.
