mines somehow got some shit on the inside of the screen and its getting on me tits 
without taking the mallet to it is there a way to get the cover off?

Yes mate, take the backoff and push the two clips down on the top and it comes off, like it's hinged at the bottm.
It does feel like it's stuck at first, so give it a good pull !!OOOEERRR lol
