Hi help/advise needed iam just about to embark on pinto with a cosworth head conversion. can anyone give me advise on what they have and havent done in the process of fitting the head. iam not in the market for big horsepower as it is fitted in my westfield.

Why not put a Warrior/Holbay head on instead?

 

as long as you're using the pinto 205 block you shouldn't have any problems bolting it on cos it's the same as the cossie motor.

might have fuelling issues unless you're using some silly carbs. watch for compression ratios as well cos the worth is turbocharged. not sure how this would affect the performance but it's something i'd check out before going ahead.

the other thing to check is that the pistons are a compatible shape with the ports on the head. you'll need a custom exhaust manifold made up as well.

if so , it should bolt straight on

 

bolt the head on with some sort of fueling, like carbs or throttle bodies and you can get between 150 - 170hp! Change the cams port the head high comp pistons and you can have 230++!! Will post up some pics if you like as I am in the process of building one!

Did this to my first MK2 RS2000 about 8yrs ago. Head will bolt straight to pinto block (doesn't have to be a 205 but use one if you can as they are a lot stronger).
Theres a few other parts to change as well - auxilary & crankshaft shaft pulley (as the timing belt is wider), re-routing of the heater pipes and a few other small bits I can't remember at the moment. If your fitting it to a standard bottom end then compression ratio will be a bit low. You could skim the head and/or block but check the valve/piston clearance as you may need to pocket the pistons to avoid contact. Stick on a pair of 45s and you've got an excellent conversion with plenty of power

hello mate, i looked into it a couple of years ago and i bought a book called HOW TO POWERTUNE FORD SOHC PINTO & SIERRA COSWORTH DOHC ENGINES. Burtons do it for £17.99 and it gives you a step by step guide on how to do it.
