Default how many S2's are insured under...

hi there just wondering how many of you have got their S2's decleared as classic cars, what year the car is, and what the premium is?

mine is a 90model (G plate) and was wondering when my renewal comes round whether or not i would be able to insure it as a classic car?

are there any limitations to having this policy?

cant be bothered to spend another grand this next year for insurance!

From one of my previous posts:
After paying nearly £1400 to Norwich Union (even though I'm 28, but no no claims due to company car ) I also tried Heritage:

http://www.heritage-quote.co.uk/

They increased my mileage limit from 3000 to 5000 and saved me £1000!

I drive a 1988 (f) Escort RS Turbo S2 and if I can remember I'm sure the guy at heritage say classics can be over 10 years, obviously only certain cars are on the classic list though.

Dependant on who it is, some companies say a classic car is based on thecar itself being over 15 years old. Both of my RS's are on classic insurance, even tho one is a S2. It is a 1986 D plate & even tho production continued up until 1991, HIC base it on the CAR and not production years. Therefore it is 19 years old & qualifies for their classic insurance scheme.

Similarly my S1 is a 1986 D plate & Adrian Flux cover that under classic insurance. Both have limited mileage btw..but this just keeps premium costs down.

With either of these companies, a 1990 g plate is a classic as far as they are concerend. You can even swop policies with the classics: HIC told me I could sell the S2 and insure any Cosworth up to a 1990 just like you can swop 'normal' insurance if you buy a new car.

ok kool...by the time my insurance is here half the year would have past so im praying they will say that the late G plates will also be covered for classic insurance

just out of curiosity, howmuch do you save compared to normal quotes?

i was originally going to go for a late S2 before i bought the S1 last year, and the H & J plates did not qualify for classic insurance: 1990/91 in '04 wasn't in the 15yr manufacture date. This meant that my premium would go up from £500-ish to nearly £800-£1k mark. So a saving of nearly 1/2.

My series 2 is a 1987 e-reg, my 3dr was 1887 d-reg and the escort was more expensive!

couldn't believe it, over 180bhp more and a cosworth and it cost me more , cause of all the young drivers i was told.

It's insured the same, limited mileage (3k), and the cossy was £411 comp.

How much would it be for someone with no no-claims

Do you think, there would still be a substantial saving or not ?

Car is ERST S2 1988

i thought 1 yr equal 10% discount 2yrs equals 20% and so on up to 5 or 7 yrs ?

still think they will give you a good quote.

Forgot to mention..and RSTEVE dropped it in: HIC & Flux also do agreed values on your car: they won't just base it on a crappy one. If you've spent a load on your car, they'll agree a few with you via photo proof.

Mine is under insured

Currently insured with HIC as a Classic. 1987 E Reg, all mods declared and an agreed value of only £10k. I paid £1300 last year for that. When I renew in August I want to put on about another £3k - £4k on the value.

Glenis - Just how big are your rear brakes???

Thanks for going to look into the adjuster for me. I am going for a 300mm rear disc conversion on mine too, so I might need some kind bias valve, but I would like to still use the load compensators if possible.

Na, my brakes are "only" 330mm. I didn't want to go any bigger because I want to get 16's on the car for track. I think you should have a little disclaimer in your sig
