Default Escort mk5 clicking/clunking

Hi all;

I have just spent 3 hours changing an engine mount in an effort to fix this. The exhaust clicks and cracks when the clutch is engaged roughly. This is not so bad, but occasionally the engine will judder like anything in its mountings, so i decided i thought it was the rear right mounting on the gearbox.

But after replacing this for £80 its still the same, now i think i will have to look at the exhaust manifold and downpipe connection to see if there is a problem there.

Does anyone have any ideas? Seen this fault befor etc?

Thanks, Steve.

have you looked at all the bolts on the bell housing to make sure they're in properly?

If the cars juddering mate, might just be the clutch is wearing out

Hi Paddy

Thats cetainly a posibility and would explain the continued juddering. After driving it around today, it is certainly smoother on the gear chenges, it used to make clunk and click noises when the gears engaged. but still some occasional clicks. I'd asume that the clutch is very worn as its at 90k now I will also asume that the manifold and or downpipe have some damage or wear that is making them click stil when i change gears.

So thats about 2 days work, that put together with the 4th rocker cover gasket has started leaking and the cam belt needs changing means i have about 5 days work...

And theres still the mystery oil leak from the head gasket. Wow this car is tiring.

Steve.

Mate, Ford does stand for Fix Or Repair Daily

You never said what engine it is?

I'm guessing its a cvh, just read back thru and you say the rocker gaskets leaking

Post some pics anyway and let us know how you get on

Hi Paddy;

Yes i have heard of the fix or repair daily. There not so bad really ive just been really busy and havent had time to fix it this year.

Its a zetec 1.8. The rocker cover has been of to be painted, it leaked badly then, and when i bought it i had to fit another one. Basically every time i fit one, i do it wrong the first time, and it leaks, then i get another one and do it properly...!

As this list gets bigger i expect you'll see it in the projects section as i'll yank the engine out to do all the bits on it and repaint the bay blue, instead of the red it is.

Steve.

Hi; Nice car by the way i didnt notice the pic! I have the exact same one...

Yes i dont think the gasket is related at all its just me buying cheap replacements and fitting them too tight.

Im thinking i may replace the block now aswell when i yank it out for the clutch, belts and spray. Could pop a 2L in there for probably £100...

136ps i think but i guess the extra torque would be worth it.

This is really irritating, took the car out today (i usually cycle everywhere so dont use it much) and it was just as bad on the clicking and clunking, its only when you engage the clutch, it judders and resonates until it settles down.

Is this the clutch? Or another different engine mount?
