Default Car popping and backfiring

What causes a ERST running EFi to pop and sometimes even back fire when pulling away from a standstill ?

it seems to only do it when warmed up, or sitting a traffic lights etc... not when cold...

as i lift the clutch and go to pull away normally, it hesitates and judders, and you can hear the exhaust pop occasionally or if really bad it backfires ?

is this due to leads arc-ing with each other, or a worn rotor arm and dizzy cap ?

its fu*king annoying, everytime i am in town, it kangaroos from a standstill

What EFI are you running? Most modern systems will no longer have a rotor arm or dizzy.

The reason is most likely to be a too rich mixtue - the causes of this could be almost anything, from a warn cam lobe, to dodgy injector, wrong plug gap,bad set up...it could even be a sticking or leaking valve. Best to get it checked over by a pro - with the EFI there's not much you can do at home.

Right so it's the EFI injection manifold, but running Cosworth management? Who mapped it? What injectors? I don't think anyone here will be able to provide you with an answer - best go back to the tuner that installed the system and get them to take a look. Any sensor which is either no longer working or not properly calibrated or compatible with the system could cause such problems. It could even be a fault in the ECU itself.

Wrong plug gap? You could swap the TPS easily enough so it's worth a try.

yeah someone just said the exact same thing, it could be wrong plug gap

something as simple as that

the plugs are ment for a big turbo escort cosworth, so i bet the gap is incorrect for an RS turbo ZVH, so i need to re-gap them

would a phase sensor covered in oil cause this problem ?

took the dizzy apart, and saw the phase sensor switch/plug was saturated in oil...

rotor arm and cap were fine.... just wet through phase sensor etc....
