I've removed the abs and used the rs servo and a new xr3i master cylinder, removed the load compensation valve and fitted a xr3i brake proportional valve. Had all new brake lines and the front calipers have been sent away and been fully reconditioned, the drums have had new shoes. Hand brake cable and new wheel cylinders now the problem is my brake pedal is really low.. The system has been bled a few times and 100% air free.. My question is has anybody had this problem as this is a common conversion to do? Had anybody had to adjust the actuator rod that comes from the servo to push the master cylinder? It's just a thought as maybe they have a different throw requirement... Its only this to be done then it's mot time after a 3 year restoration..

 

XR3 master cylinders are 2mm smaller diameter that the RST one.

 

I read lots of people use xr3i master cylinder when removing the abs.. I don't have the old master cylinder as it got lost when the car was having all the work done...

Is there a more suited master cylinder to use? It has to have 4 ports.. 3x 10mm and 2x 12mm threads.

Or is it a case of finder a servo to suit?

 

I used the original master cylinder when I removed my abs but swapped the fluid reservoir to a XR3 one and it seems to work fine to me.

I’ve no idea what other master cylinder would work, my son fitted a Mondeo mk1 to his Fiesta but getting one of them now will be difficult.

 

is there weight on the back end to load up the rear compensators ? xr3i master should work fine

 

Even tho the pedal is low, are they then working properly? e.g. not spongey, pedal doesn't sink any further if held

If so, have you checked the servo rod gap to master cylinder? 7mm nut IIRC. Never seen a documented Ford value, but I tend to use .020 and that works nicely with no bind
