Default Starting up RS

The guy who had my car before me used it only for shows and a few weekends, so it wasnt getting used a lot. When it first came, it always sounded like it wasnt going to go and needed a lot of throttle to help it.

Why then, after me using it just about everyday for the past week, is it starting a lot easier a running smoother? Is there any reason for this or is it just coinsidence?

The fueling system on these cars a is a little dated. Most of it is mechanical and if it isn't used it can start to get a little tight. Chances are that using the car is freeing everything up again and making it easier to start.

Mine ran like a sack of shit after not being used for 3.5 years until it had run for a bit. I still don't like the way it runs so the KE-Jetronic is coming off eventually and new engine management is going to be fitted.

I'll be fair and say my car is running a HELL of a lot smoother without the dump valve

The problem is with the RS Turbo is that the fuel system relies on every pipe on the inlet and breather to be sealed properly and not split because the vacuum that the engine creates pulls down on the flap under the air filter and inturn, this regulates the fuel. This is how the system knows how much air the engine is drawing.

If you have a split pipe then the engine can suck in air which is not measured by this flap which means more air is entering the engine than there should be fore the amount of fuel entering the engine. A dump valve also introduces an "air leak" into the induction system and can often make the car stall and at best run lumpy. The problem is that the dump valve won't stay shut on idle because the vacuum sucks it open. The only way to get round this is to use a Bailey twin piston dumper or an adjustable one.

Hope that means something to you.

My car cut out a couple of times, and see what u mean about running "lumpy"

I got the bit that was cut sealed off with a little nail for now til I get a new one, but its running a dream again....awww I love my baby so much! Im quite emotional about it lol. Last night I went up to somerfield for drink with 2 mates, all these chav boys came over n were like "thats not ur car, that ur boyfriends car, can we get a spin in it" ehhhh

I am single indeed, like keeping my options open until I find myself with a person I trully want to be with, not happened for a while anyway.

The funniest bit was when one asked me where I stayed so they could all come round 2moro and look at it, I was like erm I live in that high rise accross the road, 21st floor, got a garage on the roof and everything. They even looked accross, quality

Also found myseriously damp front carpets, im hoping that was from the valet a couple of days ago and not the result of a leak

Both sides more so the passengers, it was like one big puddle. It could have been leaking for years because my dad says it doesnt rain in Hampshire, and when it did then the car would have been tucked away in a garage. Why do i Suddenly feel a terrible wave of guilt for buying the car! See my post "wet carpets"

simple tip, get it out of as much rain as possible...

dont want to sound patronising, but to extend its life, just get it out of as much rain as you can, by covering it over or whatever... by whatever means nessacery

living all the way up there, is the RS turbo's nightmare...cos its cold and wet all the time, more or less...

so you need to take prevention measures etc.. and get a place of storage for your car, or a high quality car cover... its a must, if you ask me
