Is matt black engine bay original?
Looking at a 1989 S2 Escort up for sale, car is original diamond white but when opening the hood, all engine bay is matt black as in primer (No paint). Is that normal at all??? Car has no sunroof and also manual windows, Zolda cloth in seats and panels?? Is that all normal, or am I looking at a crashed car that has been poorly repaired?? I don't see any weird weldings or patches, but makes me wonder.
Thanks for the reply! It looked quite "new" though, as mint matt black all around, no signs of old paint having vanished over it. TBH seems as if it never was painted at all, more like a base primer. I have heard Ford did no longer paint engine bays for some models at some point to save costs, but no idea if it happened with the Turbo. I had an 88 one many years ago, and for sure it was all around white. Same will all pics I can google. The outside has been resprayed in white in a quite poor manner, but no weird panel gaps, creases or anything like that as far as I can tell. Smells weird, but the car is overall well looking.
Anyone else can weigh in please? It looks like this one you can see the black inside but the gray/red paint outside, is this likely a reshell of a totalled car?

common for european cars not to have a sunroof,it should have opening rear quarter lights ,also a lot of european cars didnt have elctric windows .i havent seen a ford car with matt black under the bonnet ,but again not unsusual for some other car makers so could have been done by a previuos owner .
