Default Sierra 2000E overheating?

hi all,

so my 1989 2000E 2.0l dohc sierra is currently over heating I left it with a local mechanic he was changing sensors ie coolant sensor, thermostat fan sensor, and radiator sensor. to no avail he couldn't sort it so took it to a electrical mechanic he sorted out the fans said that the cable was broken so he ran a new one now the problem is that with all the different sensor's in it now ( not sure if mechanic gave mine back or not as he said he had ones from an old car) it shows that the temperature gauge needle is on the red on the gauge but the car isn't over heating.I put a new ford oem radiator sensor and a new fan sensor ford oem but engine is fine fans kick in when have to but just the temapture gauge is well in tje red anyone know what this could be? thanks

hi there you havnt said anything about the cylinder head thermostat being changed first thing to change ideally. you say the the rad fans cut in which is half the job there supposed to do but do they cut of after a short while with the engine still running if so theres not much wrong.check the water system has circulation that is water coming back upto the exspansion bottle through the smaller pipe. check that the water hoses arnt getting rock hard this could be head gasket gone over one of the water ways compressing the water system. when the engine is running release any pressure in the exspansion bottle be sensible put an old towel over it first undo the cap a minute or two after there shouldnt be hardly any pressure build up so quick if so this also could point to head gasket

hi Ray yeah so put in new coolant and water it's all coming back into the expansion tank, I squeezed the top pipe on the radiator and its fine not rock hard and as I squeeze it pushes the coolant t back into the tank so systems not airlocked. I also have a new radiator fitted aswell. I wonder is ot the coolant sensor as I'm looking on line I can see that there colour bands on them I wonder if I swap them for a different colour would that help?

hi Lee,

yeah ao this is my problem now, I think as everything else is working just that the gauge is reading to high. I see I can get a green a black and red coolant tempature sensor. Just going to buy all 3 and see which one works best 👌. fingers crossed this is it going to call ford Tommorow and see and if not going to the auto factors.

ask ford what colour is the right one save you buying others but then oem ones might not be coloured

Black is for 1.8 Diesel engines, green is the one you want on a 1989 2000e

if someone has been messn around with it hasnt it just had a air lock? i no you have had people change stuff etc so water system has had a bit work lately..

Just a air lock in system would explain the temp readn high etc..

i know the gauge says normal but it looks a bit to high to me all the sierras ive had read just after half and stay there

normal running temp thats slightly high. no hot air could be air lock. has it got a thermostat in it if it has look for a bleed nipple around the thermastat housing some have them some dont run the engine turn the heaters over to hot leave it set on cold it wont circulate after its circulated properly it doesnt matter. no thermostat no hot air. im assuming you no you have to undo the bleed nipple to release the air untill you only got water coming out of the nipple

Hi Ray, so mine doesnt have a bleed nipple so i ran the engine with the exspansion tank open let the fans turn over twice was squeezing all the pipes to try and help any blockages but still the same out come?😮‍💨

find the matrix make sure its not been bypassed an old trick if it was leaking. some are right behind the dash. if the two pipes are conected still make sure the change over valve is operating this is the temp heater control its just a simple tap/valve type thing that stops the water circulating through the matrix
