not sure how interested any of you will be in this but as were all petrolheads im hoping some of you will enjoy the progress/journey
got to copy and paste the first few posts
Hi guys after what has been around 6-7 years i have finally got myself back into 206 GTi ownership. our last gti was sold on as we were expecting our first child so something a tad more practical was required.
anyway iv had an itch to get into trackdays for a while so started the search or something suitable and not bank breaking to purchase, straight away i just thought id love track a 206 and within 48 hours i had fount a motor under an hour away and at a good price.
So today i headed out did all the relevant checks and struck a deal or £1100 i will be collecting the car next weekend and then the fun can begin.
got a lot of plans in the pipeline which will see it into a very capable and fun track car, it will certainly be staying n/a and be an absolute screamer first jobs are to get it stripped out and fit a set of coilovers
Already i have the first few mods arriving, the plan is to get the car stripped/handling/stopping better and give it an extra bit of grunt before getting it out on track asap.
i will then be adding bits as we go to improve things before the big engine build etc
OMP front strut brace arrived earlier this week
BMC cda induction kit should be here within next couple of days
Vmaxx coilovers will be here within next couple of weeks (no stock)
I did a little bit of research on the vmaxx set up and they have got a lot of very positive feedback, but rest assured i will be swapping over to a much better known brand down the line and just want to get these on so i can hopefully get a couple of track days in before the year ends.
the next mods will be uprated discs and pads and a short shifter then ill move onto the whole exhaust system
Went to collect the car today and took my main co driver with me, needless to say he approves. Had great fun coming back and can't wait to get stuck into the task ahead.

Going to give the car a little freshen up and also do a coolant change whilst were at it.
I managed to get a job squared away early yesterday so come home and had a quick couple hours on the car.
Rear seats etc removed Spare wheel/Jack removed BMC cda fitted New wipers fitted Cabin filter replaced All fluid levels checked and sorted
A total of 33.4kg removed from the car, air con to be deleted next which is around 10-11kg and then I'll be looking at polycarb rear 1/4s and rear screen which should be half the weight of the glass.
I have also had a fair few amount of new parts arrived that will be going onto the car soon.
These are the following
Stainless 4-1 exhaust manifold
Lightweight crank pulley
Short shifter kit and uprated fork bush
Steel gear linkage set
Baker engine mount kit
All nice little mods I think you'll agree and will certainly give the car a more positive feel.
Lightweight flywheel will be the next purchase and then it can be fitted the same time as the new clutch
looking forward to getting these bits on as it will certainly add to the driving experience, need to sort out an exhaust system to finish off that side of things especially as the rear box is now blowing. Hopefully will be able to fit the full uprated engine mount set and front strut brace before the end of the month.
On Thursday the following were fitted
4-1 manifold
short shift and steel gear linkages with uprated fork bush.
alloy crank pulley
Oil and filter change
I can say without any hesitation the car feels so much better now on the gear change and also the manifold has really opened it up from 3.5k onwards it certainly pulls harder.
I have the car booked in for a set of Avon zv7 tyres also and really can't wait get the stainless system on there next Friday afternoon.
I've also bought a spare cylinder head that I'll be sending to Al developments and then complimenting that with a pair of Newman ph2 cams and a custom remap of the oe ecu at GT Motorsport.

went to collect the spare cylinder head from my local parcelforce yesterday this will be sent to AL developments for porting etc
in midweek i received the new water pump and cam belt kit that will be fitted at same time as the new head.
Had to postpone getting an exhaust made on friday as we have had some bloody horrible bug in our house for over a week now which has seen me having take a total of 4 days off due to looking after my son and myself also being bad, so for the time being i got this ordered.
A little temporary fix for the car to replace the blown standard part. I'll be going full custom once the engine develops in the new year.
Me and my co pilot are off to congleton today to get a set of avon zv7 tyres fitted and also have the tracking done, its crying out for both tbh
One thing I have been looking into is how to upgrade the front brakes without having pay 1k+
standard front discs are only 266mm in size so the obvious first option would of been to go for a set of GTi 180 calipers/discs which would up the size to 283mm.
After a bit more of a search I fount out that a model of the 307cc had 302mm brakes and they are also interchangeable with my car.
So a quick trip to eBay and I fount the calipers required for £40 and got straight onto euros for a set of brembo discs and ebc green stuff pads (will run yellowstuff for track use).

Cracking result mate, will make a world of difference.
Hi guys been hugely busy with work so things have slowed down a bit.
But I have managed do a few more little bits on the car
Gave the throttle body a much needed clean
Fitted a new set of Ngk spark plugs all gapped correctly.
And also got the sportex back box on there what I'm really happy with looks wise and also I can't fault the sound it's just enough (as said this is only a temp set up until I go full custom when we get the engine build underway).
Purchased this last night Been doing a lot of research on a piggyback ECU and these things seem to be right at the top, they can even run throttle bodies etc when ran in fuel implant mode.
This will be going on as soon as I get the ported head and newman cams in there.
been massively busy with work tying up the last jobs before a little xmas break.
update on the car is as follows
the water pump decided to let go, but i think it only did about a max of 3 miles in said state.
Going to test the head to make sure the gasket is in good shape and if so will be doing cambelt/waterpump etc during xmas and new year.
Did a bit of swatting up on best way and it seems that taking the engine off its mounts and lifting/tilting forward makes he job a hell of a lot easier, this will also be the ideal time to fit the uprated engine mounts
if it turns out the head gasket is shot then I have a spare cylinder head here that will be sent to AL Developments in the new year for porting etc and well look a uprating the cams at the same time

Cracking update mate and hopefully the HG isn't gone .
ill be able to report back on this today as ill be testing it around mid morning, it would certainly be an inconvenience but not the end of the world for sure
After being let down on numerous occasions to use a friends ramps at his garage I decided to get the car over to my good mate rsmat at ocd productions to get some of the work underway and most importantly get the new water pump and cam belt kit on there.
I'll hopefully be able to join him on the spanners and rattle a few jobs off also.
