Default Embaressing S1 Rs Turbo ignition switch..

Hello,
Been working away on converting my track S1 to standalone management and have managed to get it running . Hurray.

Having some issues with the ecu not turning OFF when the key is out the ignition. Sad faces.

Looking at the ignition switch ( behind the barrel ) mine has the two little lugs with 2 tiny grub screws that hold it into the barrel. I want to replace it but cannot find one . The one I have at the moment is from a transit ( fits but has a load of unnesssarty wires ) . The mk4 ones look to be a different design...am i missing something ?

I think im getting alternator back feeding issues and its driving me insane.

thank you in advance

Maybe.... ive got the ignition switch powering a relay that then puts power to a little fused distribution board for the ecu etc.
its definitely an intermittent problem.
was getting 17v at the battery . Checked over the alt. Rectifier OK , changed the volt reg as a precaution.
ran sweet for 5 mins ( 14.5 v at battery ) then crept up again.

unplug stuff one at a time to find it boost solonoid injectors coils what ever it backfeeds the ecu and keeps it live when you find the culprit the ecu will obviously turn off

Good idea.
ive ordered a new alternator to eleminate that . My 'new 'ebay volt reg. Could be duff.

as it stands i can only stop it by pulling the fuse to the ecu power relay .
oddly, with out the car running , the ecu turns off with igniton .

sounds like the alternator is powering the system even when you remove the key
Any pics of the car?

Its ME442 - bought an unterminated loom . Spoke to them , they are very helpful. they pointed at alternator as well. New one turns up this week . I guess with the charging voltage all over the shop, the sensors etc. will be confused and itd run like shit any way.
Wanted to run it without the Alternator , ie. just off the batt , but pretty sure it cant be done because theres reminance of the Rs loom still in there..cant remeber if its poss.

with megasquit it back feeds through the battery light on the dash and you need to fit diodes to let the car turn off

ah...interesting. that is definitely the area I'm homing in on , going through all the wiring diagrams. think I've got a few issues - dodgey alternator ( 17 V charge ) + back feeding .

Can it run with out the Alt connected on mfi ?

disconnect the charging wire to the alternator(cover it in tape)and try the car using only the battery
if you are able to turn it off with the key its alternator side of it

ok so i fitted he new alternator today and after much dicking around i got it running fairly ok.
the fans are clicking in and out randomly ( wired into the ecu ) sometimes even when the ecu is powered off so theres deffo some issues .
however.. it does now turn off on the key.
starting it is a ball ache now ...itll run on for a good few seconds with the fuel relay fuse out lol
when i did get it running eventually i had to take a load of fuel out of the part of the Map where it was hovering ( im no tuner).and it sort of ticked over ok for 10 mins. Im getting afrs of 11:1 etc.
anyway..some progress at least. Deffo some electrical gremlins but also now it seems to be more about the map as well.
after running for 10 mins at idle i shut it off on the key, went to restart and it wouldn't . So i went indoors and had a beer.

As a side note. I would bet the ignition switch is the same as a Sierra.

interesting...spent alot of time looking into this... the key switch ( with the wires ) looks the same as an plastic XR2 one ( with the little scews ) , also a Capri one , ( which is metal) .

The transit one i have fitted at the moment is metal and arcs when it the casing touches the brake pedal ( ive got it swinging in the breezeat the moment )

Cant find a plastic one anywhere.

Ill look at the sierra ones now.. and also what ignition barrel ive got .. think its been messed about with in that case.

Very nerdy post.
