Default Hard Snap/dip when pressing clutch pedal

I've got a Helix 6 peddle clutch In my mk3 FRST with a heavy duty pressure plate. I'm finding when I press the clutch pedal down to about 3/4 quarters there is a snap/dip feeling and to release the pedal at the same point it just springs back up. It makes controling the clutch pedal a right c#*t, I'm assuming this dip in due to the pressure plate forks?

Does anyone else have the same pedal feel? I'm still on cable. Is there any way to improve the feel? A heavy pedal I don't mind, but the bounce back is difficult to control.

Don't want to go hydraulic if can help it, as that will be a bit of a job.

If I remember right its the ratchet part. I can’t remember exactly which one now but I’m sure there was a better one from a later car. For some reason I think mk5 escort but I could be remembering it all wrong. Worth checking that out though and even just changing if it’s dodgy.

I've already had a billet quadrant put in, but the pedal feel is aweful. As mentioned it's got a hard snap 3/4 way down then ok after to the floor, but the biting point is just before the snap so when coming up it's a nightmare to control as it just springs real hard from that point.

is this what it's like having a heavy duty pressure plate on a cable clutch, or is something else up here?. I thought the pedal would just be really heavy but without this snap

Can't say I've ever encountered a "snap" using a 6 paddle on cable. Only snapping I've ever had (literally ) is the clutch ratchet as already mentioned. But if you're billet, it isn't that.

How olds the cable? Might be dried out and causing snagging internally which makes it feel shite at the pedal...

maybe snap is not the best word to describe it, it's like a hard dip, but it's also springy and bounces back on you when coming back up with the pedal. Cable has been on there for a long time, but the car don't go out much lol.

Would a new cable really sort that out?

Is your pedal just heavy but with a consistent heavy feel?

My own car hasn't got one fitted anymore, but on all cars that I have fitted them to, yes they've just felt heavy through the full pivot. No change in consistency.

I can't say a new cable would sort it - if its dried up inside and is causing snagging, then yes it will rectify, but I can't confirm thats the issue from here. They are like Ł10, if its old, then its not breaking the bank to renew anyway. The only other thing I can think of is if you've got a dodgy spring on the pedal assembly that is weak at a certain point, therefore you feel the change in the pedal at a certain point (assuming that point is consistent). Can't say I've encountered that before, but not impossible..

Again this is all on the assumption that its a new clutch/new clutch plate and everything is fitted correctly.

My son had the same thing with his helix clutch. I think he had an incorrect release bearing fitted but that was with an IB5 and RST flywheel.

It occurs at the same point. I've got a bolt going through the pedal up against the quadrant, which can be adjusted. When this is not pushing against the quadrant the pedal feel is consistent without this snap/dip, however the clutch does not disengage so won't go in gear like this. When this is adjusted against the quadrant so the clutch disengages that's when it feels snappy and bounces back.

Will try change the clutch cable, but got a feeling this is just how it will always be. Not sure why it's like that when others have got a much better pedal feel with the same setup.

changed the cable but still the same pedal feel. Has anyone done a hydraulic clutch conversion on the frst with engine in? Might have to consider this option now.
