Default 2.0 blacktop turbo parts? HELP!!

I’ve recently bought a 2.0L blacktop to put in a fiesta which I want to turbo. I’ve been looking online for help on on parts/modification to the engine but can only find info on the st170 engine..

what parts are needed for a budget turbo build?
what ecu is best to use?

cheers

Don’t really have one mate. Probably 1-2k but looking to do it as cheap as possible, don’t really want too much power. I’d be happy with 250-300 ish bhp

For your budget I really would reconsider starting especially if your looking towards the higher end of the power target.

An aftermarket ecu, loom, sensors and an initial mapping will sink around Ł1200~Ł1500
There are budget alternatives but.....

This is with out the main bits and these are nothing compared to the little bits.

what would be a realistic budget for me to do it all then? I’m happy to spend more tbh.. what parts and engine work are needed mate?

You could run it stock and keep it very low boost. Same with a decomp plate but all the other bits will cost good money.

One budget zetec turbo route is the st170 / Zetec hybrid.
st170 bottom end with a set of Arp rod bolts.
Your 2.0 Blacktop top end with the st170 valve springs.
A thick head gasket.
You may as well give it a refresh with oil seals, valve stem seals and bearings.
Cr around 9:1

if your counting both base engines this is an easy grand.

Another option if your engine is good.
Focus Rs pistons.
Forged Rods
Valve springs.
full refresh.
Cr around 8:1

A good Ł1500

you will need a turbo, Td04 are cheap and reliable but will be maxed out at around 275bhp.
Injectors at this level will be 440cc~660cc range.

gearbox, you will be looking at an mtx75 conversion.
A descent 240mm clutch, something like the Focus Rs.

Intercoolers, plumbing.

I've found the hard way the list really does go on and on.

thank you! What about an intake manifold? Can I use the blacktop one?
also if I go the route of putting rs pistons, forged rods etc I won’t need a decomp plate?

I do. Mine is an Rs one but I don’t think they fit in a Fez ?

The Ho manifold is an option but they use side fed injectors. They can be converted to end feed injectors or high impedance side feds found to fit.

you use a decomp plate?
Ill have to look into weather they fit in the fez or not then.. is your engine running rs internals? What sort of power is it making?

Rs pistons are available new. Ford rods are not but you can get forged rods to fit.

These with a standard head gasket give you A Cr of 8:1. No decomp plates or hard to find head gaskets needed but your block will, need to be in very good condition and you will need some light machine work to freshen it up. Deglaze / hone. Maybe decking and scrupulously cleaned.

I’ve built a few.

My current one is Focus Rs based and good for a reliable 350 bhp +

low miles Blacktop. Ł250
Rs pistons Ł300
forged rods with Arp bolts Ł350+
Piper valve springs Ł200
Gaskets, bolts, bearings, seals Ł250
Machine work Ł100

built by my self.

Inlet full Rs with 440cc Injectors. Rs bits are now very hard to find.
Exhaust manifold. I’ve made my own.
Turbo I’ve got differant ones.

Clutch is FRs Ap racing.

Engine managment, I do things differently here again it’s Focus Rs.

cheers for your help mate, I’ll get my engine apart and see what condition it’s in!

I might ask some more questions later on if that’s okay.

thanks again

Just jumping on this thread, I’ve got a fez st150 with a focus rs mk1 engine and box going in . Just some advice needed on which way to go with the wiring 😳 I’ve got the frs ecu and a loom that has been spliced into a fiesta one , it needs a bit of work but do you think I should get on with that or go aftermarket? The cluster was missing and what looks like a bike one fitted. Would the st cluster not communicate with the frs ecu. Thanks for any answers👍

my turbo is just a chinese t3/4 with some slightly larger wheels in. it was cheap and had recently been rebuilt by midland turbo so i took the chance. It sits on a boost performance manifold and uses an external wastegate. boost is currently around 21psi but i'll turn it up at some point i'm sure

Ah thanks I’ve got a hx35 on a boost manifold so pretty much the same sort of thing. Amongst several others. But thought it maybe to big for the road but ideal for Santapod

Trick to using the FRs ecu is matching the spec to the tune. So if you have all the Rs sensors, injectors and a similar sized turbo and your happy with ~220bhp then away you go. But if you want more power and you want mix and match the build then you may as well start with an aftermarket ecu.

Bluefin have gone bust but a stage one would take a stock Rs to 250 ish and sabre can map them to 400 ish.

Re your dash, the Rs ecu will talk to the St dash but the oil pod will do nothing and the speedo signal may not be the same. .

Williams Racing ( WMS )
I emailed him last week. They are out of stock but should be back by the end of the month. The price includes nearly a Hundred quid's worth of Arp's.

If you have Rs pistons you need Rs spec rods for the bigger gudgeon pin.
