Default hole in the floor

so found a hole in the floor of my car today on the passenger side...it is fairly bad....there is a picture below... it looks like rust but it is infact the tarmac below (inside the red circle). The sill and the main floor on the rest of the car all seems very solid.... so for some strange reason its completely rotted in this one area on the car....I have no idea why but the good news is that the rest is all ok! my question is

1. is it a safety issue ? as the sill and rest the floor ok... the hole is located between sill and the floor so not sure if its a structural issue?
2. if its not a safety issue should i just fill it with fibreglass or get it welded ?

MOT 3 months away so good job i spotted it now !

Nah why would the floorpan need to be attached to the sill with metal - just slap fibreglass or some silly putty on it :P

Yes its a pretty integral join in the grand scheme, so get it welded. Thankfully its a pretty easy area to cut out (to clean metal) and get a decent rectangular piece shaped up to drop in. Not a hard job really even for a DIY welder with some patience. Prep is key tho if you don't want to be doing it again in 12 months, theres clearly alot more rust sitting under the remaining paint and probably under that plastic sill trim, so either cut it all out, or take it right back to clean metal with a flap disc or wire brush and see if theres strength in whats left to weld to.

ha yeah thanks well reason i asked as the hole not that big at the moment and rest of the car seems fine. but front of sill that side looks bit rusted but the hammer does not go through it and i hit it pretty hard to make sure. unlike that bit where the hammer goes right through. I will look for a welder...

Don't fuck about get it cut out and repaired if you cant do it yourself save up then take it somewhere who knows what there doing. but if it ends up needing inner outer sills and a floor pan repair plus paint I can see it being over a grand if honest

That’s doing it properly and cutting out all the rust as no doubt once you start there be loads more. If it’s a car your not really bothered about any joey can patch it outside your house for a few hundred
