Just bought myself an RS Turbo! Will it ever run again?! Help 🙏
Hi guy’s, thanks for having me. This is my first post, I’ve just managed to get my hands on a 1990 Fiesta RS Turbo, it was a stolen recovered vehicle so it came as non runner because it had no keys.
I bought a complete lock set on eBay with a new ignition switch, I did the basics to check if it had oil and water, put another battery in it and it fired up!
I let it run for approx 10mins until the oil got back into the lifters and the top end quietened down, then I carried out an oil and filter change and a new alternator belt.
I was able to start and drove the car (only forward and backwards, not out on the road yet) and all seemed fine.
A few days later I wanted to get it down to the garage to have a look underneath and give it through check over. It started fine but when I raised the revs it was hesitant almost as if it was ‘choking’ and wanted to cut out.
At first I thought it was running low on fuel or the fuel had gone off, so I filled it up with some fresh petrol and started it, it ran for a few seconds and then it started misfiring, I tried to raise the revs but as soon as I touch the accelerator pedal the engine cuts out.
It’s now at the point that it won’t even start, all it does is crank. I have fuel, I have spark, however it a very weak spark and so far I’ve tried another coil pack, checked the crank shaft sensors physically and with a multimeter for signal pickup. I’ve also checked there is signal/ pulse coming to the injectors and also to the coil pack.
Ive read up online that it maybe the EDIS module or the ECU itself, but I don’t want to throw any money at parts I don’t need.
If anyone could shed some light, or point me in the right direction, any and all help would be much appreciated.
Thank you all!
