Mk4 escort XR3I Efi, ST170 Conversion , Help!
Hi, I have a mk4 escort xr3i convertible, 1990 Efi. Looking to find out what is required to fit an st170 duratec engine. Can I use existing gearbox, flywheel, mounts etc fuel injection, tank, pump etc cheeRS
What are you like with wiring ? The standard st170 injection is perfectly adaptable to run in the 3i but you will need all the sensors to go with it including the inlet manifold, needed for the Imrc.
I am a big fan of the stock ecu because its cheap and I like a challenge but the St will give a lot more with stand alone management and vvt control, throttle bodies and good exhaust.
I would say if your not good with wiring dont ruin your 3i.
The difference is probably 30hp and that could cost 2k for bolt on parts and the standard St with 160 ish would still be a huge giggle over a cvh.

I am fine with wiring, but to be honest I'm looking for as simple a conversion as possible, and if I can use the existing wiring and ecu. Can the EFI manifold be bolted on to the st170? Do you need to upgrade the injectors??

My party trick is running the Ford engines out side of a ford. So I work out the ecu wiring as if it was a stand alone ecu. This can be used to run it anyware. I am into kitcars others have used the info to put them into hot rods, boats and all sorts.
Trouble is, guys on this forum want to know how to integrate this back into a ford. There are multi ways to do this depending on age. As it’s somthing I am not into I don’t have the info to hand. I would like to help more but I just don’t have any time and I must get asked a few times a week.
I post up all I know, the st170 thread http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/forum/47/viewthread.php?tid=190440
