Default Ex Police Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 Restoration

My latest project is a Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 Ex police car. This is the car that was on the tv series blues and twos in the 90s, long thought to be dead but it’s been on a cdz number plate since 1996. The car needs a serious amount of work but I think it definitely needs saving

Some pics of the car in service

And how it looks now

It wont be a quick project, first job is to get the head back on and get it running as it came off the road due to head gasket failure. Try and scrape it through an mot to get the original number plate back on it.

I have 2 really good sierra shells to cut up for panels, but 3 weeks before I bought this I bought a 2wd sapphire. Now I’ve ended up with 3 Cossie’s which was never the plan, so will have to get the 2wd up for sale in the spring before any real work starts on this.

I’m undecided at the moment, it needs so much work that it’s the last thing on my mind at the moment. I want it pretty much back to standard. Il probably fit a stage 1 chip but keep everything else as it should be. Really want to find the original police spec interior for it

Great project did the police have many cossies back in the 90s ? Did they have any 2wd in police aswell ?

What's biggest issue with the shell is it rust repairs ?

Northumbria police seemed to have a lot of Cossie’s, don’t know about other areas.

Yea it looks ok in photos but its really seriously rotten underneath

They might have looked after them temporarily but I doubt they had them for long

I've joined the forum just to ask about this. I know the world is a bit mad at the moment but what sort of price are you putting on it?

I'd like to know if it's in the right ballpark for me to save for...!

Jim, did you ever, during your restoration, get involved in the audio side of things?

The reason is I have one also and I'm looking to put the original head unit back in (once I know what it is!)

I can find the 7 way power plug as usual (I used to fit sound systems into Cosworth back in the late 90's so I've cut more of them off than I care to remember) but there's no sign of an amplifier in the passenger footwell behind the kick panel as I seemed to remember there would be.

Also, I can only find 4 wires for speakers not the usual 8.

I can find no evidence it had a CD player below or Graphic Equaliser.

All very odd, wondered what you had found in yours?

Cheers,

Justin
