Default Zetec s fiesta

A friend of mine offered me this fiesta for 150 quid so thought id take a punt on it.....it's previously been sprayed white and the underside is in real great shape! The back axle has been upgraded to a st and that's really all I know so far!

The main story is that he had a tiny (huge) leak from the dipstick and instead of the idiot taking it to be repaired for a fiver (o ring had gone) he decided to ignore It.....buy a hundred quid of oil, get banned and give up on the car totally and run it dry until it eventually gave up! Luckily it was out of fuel, unluckily the bottom end was Knocking like the local docks girls boots!

So I stripped the sump off (full of shrapnel) no.3 has alot of wear on the crank bit the rod has no wear. I took a chance on some 18 quid bearings as it seemed to take the play away, put it back toget her, fired up and.......still sounded like a tractor! Time to strip it 😆

Cheers mate 👍
Just get it running really lol. Last owner ran it dry so I need to strip the engine and have a look......most likely be new engine job as I know no.3 on the crank has .24 mm wear from what I've seen! Wheels are going to go black and the bumpers need respraying then just see what happens from there. Most likely keep it neat and tidy for a while 😆

Cheers. No its a right pain lol. Tbh it's coming apart quite nicely, I don't like the design on the timing belt. I've done a few other cars but never one of these duratecs as I've heard they're a pain! I ended up jamming a screwdriver in the flywheel and cracked the crank bolt off with a big torque wrench! I have been battling with it all week trying various things but that's what ended up working for me!
So the head is now off, next I'll do sump and probably just take the rest of it apart and yank it out by hand! I'm guessing with all the shards of metal I found in the cam oilers it's gonna be a new engine job! Cheers for replies.

So the engine is out. Crank was wrecked on no.3 con rod! Could have had it reground but for the price I had the engine and seat it really wasn't worth the hassle! Gonna get some bits on ebay tonight! Mega cheap 😎 30 quid for a head sounds good ey 😂😆

Cheers, I had an 03 1.4 and I loved that, after that I had an 04 ka sport and loved that too then I went to an 05 1.25 and didn't like that lol. Im really looking forward to getting out and about with it as I've never driven the 1.6! I just wish ford had done something different with that dashboard! It's such a shit material! Maybe when it's all done and I got spare cash I'll do something with it!

Haha cheers! As crap as it is to do the timing belts, the engine change was a real nice job! Really surprised how simple it is! Mid pipe turned up tonight 😆 not sure when I'm fitting it, I keep telling myself I'm having a month off, so far I've changed the diesel filter and air filter on the shogun last night and starter on the wife's pug tonight pmsl! Track day in the mx5 Saturday though 😆 looking foward to that!

Alright.....so I'm back on it after a few weeks off! Went to fit my eBay midpipe that said it fit a 2007 fiesta and it didn't! Cut the pipe and changed the angle, got it on second mock up so chuffed with that but it was slightly short at the rear end so I need to go back and extend it slightly!

Fitted new tyres this morning, had a struggle getting the old ones off because of them being low profile the bead was on solid so cut it off with the grinder and job done! Luckily I chose to go up to a 205 55 16 as I fancied some chunkier tyres to fill the arches without lowering and I'm pretty chuffed with how it turned out!
So I got the old nitro mors out (it ain't as good as it was 20 years ago) and power washed it all off which done most of the job and sanded the rest to give a decent finish for paint! Done one wheel flat, 3 to go 😎
Some pics 👍

Good work, I like these fiestas.
The timing belts are a doddle once you have done a few but you really need the proper locking tools and the stretch belt tooling makes life a lot easier.
Although tbh for me it would either need to be on 195/45/16 or 205/45/16 tyres.

Cheers mate 👍 is there actually a way of locking the crank? I thought it was just a case of using the aligner then getting a big ass impact on the crank pulley bolt!
Haha you wouldn't opt for them tyres if you were changing them yourself with a tyre bar on the drive 😉😂 them low profiles take alot of muscle power to get off the rim! The 55s are lovely and stretchy 😆

Yeah I see what you mean with the tyres if fitting manually.

The crank shaft locking tool bolts where the starter motor is once removed and it locks the flywheel.

This is the tool.
Amazon Amazon

Make sure you bolt it tight to the engine, I forgot to do them up properly once over and had a bit of a mishap when the engine turned a bit with the locking plate still in the camshafts.

Awesome nice one 👍
I knew I wasn't going to use the old engine so I jammed a screwdriver in there and got the pulley bolt off with a breaker bar!
At least I know how to do it properly now 👍

OK only a little update and hopefully some nice pictures later this evening! Yesterday I finished off welding the exhaust and now the fiesta is purring like a kitten (ish lol backbox has shat itself but that's how it's staying) also I put new pads up front and bled the brakes! All this went well but on the rounds I found the driver side rear handbrake wasn't locking on. Got it to lock with not much effort but then needed a hammer to release it! Took the caliper off and stripped it. Gave it all a clean on the inside, I wasn't too sure how the handbrake worked but after cleaning it up and refitting It I came to the conclusion that it was either adjusted incorrectly to begin with or the bar that runs into the caliper had corroded and seized but now at least I know I can strip and rebuild one of these caliper with ease in the future! It's now all working correctly 😎
So today, I have an abs light on so I'm gonna pull the wheels and give the sensors a clean, clean all the dirty wheel arches down with a power washer and give the car a good clean too as it's covered in iron filings from grinding and welding lol.

Cheers for the advice 👍
I done it the hard way and used a clay bar! Found the abs culprit! Was a smashed sensor on the rear driver side! Question is......why is it smashed in? No reason for it unless someone trying to get it out and hit it with a hammer and screwdriver! The wheel bearing was scraping like hell when I was turning by hand so possibly the wheel bearing is the main culprit but someone has made it worse! So I've ordered the LR abs sensors and will replace them first!
Mrs is booking it in for mot for next saturday! I'm well happy with how it's looking atm!

So while I was tracking down the abs fault I decided to pull the arch liners and power wash and sponge all the inner arches 😆 very happy with the result so far! Fair play there was no expense spared on this paint job! The car must have been stripped top to bottom! Must say....one of the cleanest cars I've ever bought! Hopefully in a week I can take a photo of the face of the person I bought it from when he sees how awesome it now is! (If it passes mot &#128514

Found out this morning that the previous owner had a flickering abs light so took it too a local garage.....it came out with the light on constant and he just left it as he knew he wouldn't have the car much longer! So I reckon there taken the hub off.....tried to get it out but ended up smashing it in then just put it all back together and played dull saying they only looked at it!

Mot in an hour! I'm not optimistic as the abs light is still on! Will get them to stick it on a diagnostics up the garage so I can pinpoint the problem! Can't justufy buying a scanner for the amount I've ever used one! Obd is worth its weight on engine management.....just a shame mine don't do abs with it!

PASSED
Well that's one fiesta saved from the scrap pile 😂
So the diagnostic just showed up as no signal on rear driver side and a weak signal on rear passengers so.....new magnetic rings are in order and the abs light should be gone! 😆
Can get on with a proper car through the winter now 😂

Got around to fitting one magnetic ring tonight ( the other hasn't arrived yet) I found out something lol. You don't actually need to remove the axle stub to do a wheel bearing....doh! I done a wheel bearing change Friday night and took the stub off with an impact gun....tonight, I took the nut off the stub and used some gear pullers to pop the hub off! If I'd done that Friday night I'd have saved myself around 10 mins lol. Anyway...lesson learnt and one side is now done. Just waiting on the other ring to arrive and I will hopefully have no more abs light!
Took the car to work today to show it off and make my mate who sold it to me jealous. In all fairness he was chuffed to see it on the road and not gone to scrap like he'd planned!
Also I've found a small leak on the rear passenger caliper! Looks like it's the internal o ring where the handbrake attaches. Will strip it and look at it the weekend! Hopefully I have an o ring in My box as a quick fix!

Oh dear.....all my hard work is now starting to go down the drain! My mrs bought a cherry bomb for it last night 🙈 I'll keep the stock box in the shed, I doubt it'll be on there for long as I'm sure she's just having a semi mid life crisis....she's 30 next year 😂
I'll do a pic for shits n giggles when I fit it tomorrow 😉

Ha let's try this in the right section! Standard back box is back on aso my fab skills are terrible and bomb kept hitting rear swing arm and burnt plastics. Lad before us had the car and bumped into a lampost. Here's the repair I done with halfrauds aerosol! Good match I think!
