Hi guy's,
my turbo failed a few weeks back so decided on a hybrid turbo, had that fitted at the garage. When I got it back the boost seems to back off at around 4000rpm.
So today I fitted a 7psi turbosmart actuator and now I'm getting a weird noise at around 3500rpm.
Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

It's a modified st250, stage 2 pumaspeed

Hard to tell from vid but that sounds like a bad rattle!

I wouldn't be driving it....

 

You need to get it mapped if you have changed spec from map.

So I have backed off the nuts on the actuator arm and this has helped a little bit but still getting the same noise at around 4000rpm. Today I will undo the nuts and do them finger tight and see if that helps.
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. The turbo is a pumaspeed x37 hybrid 20% bigger than standard. I was told the map wouldn't be a problem, it would just not run at its full potential. It wasn't an issue with the standard actuator boost just seemed to level off after 4000rpm

 

You have changed the way the boost is controlled by putting a different pressure actuator on it so it needs a remap.

I will call my local tuning company in the morning and see what they say. To me it sounds like the actuator opening and closing really quickly, but we'll see.

Took my car to a company called hypertune today, Shane had a good look over it and found that the vacuum pipe on the actuator was on the turbo and vice versa. I think that's what he said.
Anyway took it out for a drive and it was a lot better at first but at higher revs it really started stuttering.
So Shane put it on the dyno and data logged with my stage 2 map, standard map and their own stage 3 map. He found it is under power on all maps, but on the tuned maps the fuel rail pressure drops a lot without throwing up an error code for some reason. Not sure why it's not doing it on the standard map tho

If you have a tuner looking at it then they should diagnose and fix, if they cannot then I would find a tuner who can. Mark Shead has responded on this thread and what he doesn't know ain't worth knowing. Do a quick google search and you will find his mobile and work details, see if he has the software to map this car. If not I would speak to MSD. Do not be afraid to travel to find the best.

 

As above - The tuner should have the answers. Do not be fobbed off and left with unanswered questions.
