Default Aluminum header tank and swirl pot

Is there a real benefit in fitting a aluminum header tank? I’d like to fit an uprated cap with a higher opening pressure to increase the cooling capacity. But can the standard header tank take the increased pressure? I guess the aluminum tanks are ok with the pressure, but I don’t like the fact that you cannot see how much coolant is in there. I know there are tanks with a small glass in there, but still the original tank is more convenient. So why do people change?

And what is the reason to fit a swirl pot?

Aluminium header tank better from plastic.. plastic tank due to ages can explose easily. Swirl pot is very good for engine cooling system, removes air bubbles from system.

I went aluminium as I’ve had the plastic one swell slightly from a fast road drive so going to be using the car on track and didn’t want to risk it, got one with a sight glass. Swirl pot as mentioned above is meant to remove any little bubbles caused by heat in the head.

Thanks for the info!

Does anyone have an Airtec header tank with sight glass? It’s bit cheaper than the Pro Alloy and Spec-R one and looks good to me, but there are no clear pictures of the sight glass.

I hardly see any second hand Cosworth items appear on the internet anymore. The for sale section here gets about 1 post a week. Where did you find yours on Facebook?

Get allot of bargains on Facebook, if I see any I’ll send you the link, eBay can sometimes be good, this sites no use as you need to pay for a very small audience.

Is there any specific Facebook page to look at? As I am looking for more parts, so it would be great if I could check myself.

Hi Marc, my car's previous owner had fitted those and I had driven the car for a year with it, I agree the fact that you cannot see the coolant levels and it's kinda annoying so I replaced it with the stock header tank with OEM coolant piping. I do a lot of fast road drivings and given the fact that Hong Kong is basically an island where our roads are mainly up and down hills, plus our weather is a lot lot warmer than Europe. Objectively, I trust our environment is a lot harsh for the car, but I hardly find there are any difference after returning to stock.

I'm happy to give away my set for free as I do not think I will put them back, plus I no longer have those coolant piping. Just buy me drinks when I happen to visit Netherlands in the future They are from Bailey and have no damage or dents, just a bit of work polishing them I trust they will look like new again. Understand you are from Netherlands, I'm not sure how much will it cost to send over from HK, but if you are interested, please let me know.
